Reflective Journal
I am currently studying Access to Nursing, Midwifery and Health Science in Waltham Forest College. This is my sixth reflective journal based on Gibbs (1998) reflective cycle and in this essay I will write about my whole college experiences in course 2015/16.
Even though I did not expect my college course to drastically transform me, I have notice huge changes in myself in this one year course that I take the first step toward my dreams career life. Naturally, I always expected college to be a challenge; however, this has been the most challenging but also rewarding course I have ever seen before. My college history began when I came London in April 2015 to register YMCA hostel to find accommodation, I saw this college and then I registered as soon as I arrived my friend home. Two weeks later I did the college entrance assessment exams and then the college invited me for interview. I had no idea how to prepare for interview and exam as I was brand new to western society and educational curriculum. Luckily, I passed both the exam and interview and they sent me an invitation letter and gave appointment day to enrol in July 2015. I felt very happy and I promised for myself to succeed in higher mark. For me, this course is a significant to shape my life as a profession as

All in all the events were very ideal to me to learn different experiences, such as language, different cultures, openness and intelligence (moral, intellectual, interpersonal, intrapersonal etc.) and social interaction to name a few. Teachers and my friends were accommodating, welcome and considering, and played an important role in my success in this year. I do appreciate them and give them hurtful thanks. I have more self-confidence now than I did at the beginning of the course and I am now proud of myself because I finished the course successfully and achieved other

As a framework for this reflection I am going to use the Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle which uses 6 stages; description, thoughts and feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan which will improve my nursing skills by continuously learning from both good and bad experiences, and develop my self confidence in relation to caring for others (Siviter 2008).…

-I believe that it would be a great bumper sticker because wearing a seatbelt is something that is very important to do while driving. Most times people forget or simply hate wearing them because they feel uncomfortable. But a simple reminder of this would help many people avoid any disastrous situation. By wearing a seat belt a person can avoid getting a ticket. It could also lessen the force that could be applied to you if you were to have an accident while on the road. Wearing a seatbelt is something that is always found on a written test exam for getting your license. These are the reasons why I believe that a “KEEP CALM and FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT!” would be a great bumper sticker to have.…

As nurses, we encounter ethical situations everyday regarding patient care. How we handle these situations promote equality while seeking rationality. After reading the two case studies presented, I will discuss in my reflective journal how the ethical issues were presented, the steps taken in the decision-making process to ethically address the issues, the lenses used and how these lenses influenced the decisions made, and also how these can relate to the workplace. The Baird Decision Model is a five step process that guides us through that decision-making process when making ethical decisions.…

I will discuss a clinical skill that I have been practicing by using a reflective model. Reflection is defined as being ‘an active process of witnessing one’s own experience in order to take a closer look and explore it in depth’ (Johns, C. 2005). The Nursing and Midwifery Council believe that all students should undertake the art of reflection as part of their training, in order to become a competent nurse, (NMC, 2010).…

In this assignment I will reflect on, my journey from carer to student nurse, reflecting on my thoughts and experiences. I will outline my strengths and weaknesses using two models of reflection to compare. I have chosen to use the models of reflection, Gibbs (1988) as this reflective cycle is fairly straight forward; it encourages a clear description of a situation. Kolb (2004) learning cycle shows; learning theory through your experience.…

Throughout the year, I learnt that seeking perfection is an impossible task, especially that we learn from mistakes and failures. Therefore, it is important to analyze the outcomes and to reflect on what led to certain results rather than focusing on the negative result itself. Another lesson that my experiences during this year taught me is that no matter where you go or what you do, you will always find people who support and encourage you, yet you will encounter others who try to take advantage of you. Along…

The position of a manager is a foreign occupation to me. I have worked as a charge nurse for about 3 years but to be manager has always seemed overwhelming to me. I have to the opportunity to precept with Wayne Martin, who is currently the manager over the Emergency Department at Southeastern Health. He is also managing the MedCare Unit which is a critical care transport team for the hospital. To begin the morning, we started with a financial meeting with different departments such as the IT department and different business departments. The emergency department is required to go to this meeting because this is the initial part of patient care. Discussions seemed every overwhelming to me. I have never really understood the financial situation of the hospital but with the changes with Obamacare, the hospital has really taken a big hit. Conversations about cost and ways of saving and processing patients seemed to be the focus. In my opinion, the individuals involved with this meeting see patients as dollars bills and not humans. It was very dishearten to hear some of the discussions. I do understand that bills have to get paid but it was very foreign to me.…

The purpose of this paper is to summarize this week’s reading regarding nurses as educators. Today, patients are expected to assume greater responsibility for their care and health promotion. Therefore, nurses must provide patient-centered education, to ensure patients have the knowledge and confidence to take on this responsibility (Bastable, 2014).…
