Reflective Essay: Why I Choose APA Writing
Since day one, I already had a plan as to how I would get my work done and when I would be able to work effectively. I knew when I will be busy and I choose to plan ahead of myself. I do not have children and none of my friends live near so, I do what I have to. I work around my schedule and do not get blowout about anything because I work early mornings during the week so when I get off I look at my calendar to decide what I want to do so procrastination for me is not an option.
APA writing is a little easy for me since I did it in my undergrad. I also did MLA which was similar with some difference. I have books and print outs on both writing styles. Speaking of books, I take the easy way out on getting my books. If I want to order books

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

To begin on a good note, I love to write very much so. One problem with writing and I is that I forget all the technical details about writing. I enjoy writing about the things that matter to me in life such as, cars, scientific articles, and breakthroughs in technology. I really enjoy the art of writing, however It takes a lot of brainpower to get me into the swing of writing properly and efficiently.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Writing is definitely not my favorite task, but I don’t hate it either. I would say that I am indifferent towards writing. However, writing is a skill that needs to be honed and mastered, because it plays such a key role in almost any career. So when I started working in the lab I was a little apprehensive, because I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. But through my work in the lab I have observed so many different levels of students and how that plays a role in their writing and style; I have even learned some facts about the way I write that I was not aware of. I have learned that I am not very confident in my own writing skills, and I need to work on my writer’s voice.…

I have never been an extremely confident person. Although I love to express my ideas with others, I face anxiety when confronted with the prospect of public speaking or even speaking in class. I tend to focus more on my schoolwork and less on making sure I am participating in every way possible. However, my junior year was a major turning point. Just taking one different and challenging class opened my eyes and showed me that I am capable of more than I thought possible.…

Procrastinating makes a huge impact on my life, it stresses me out, and it makes me rush my homework and projects. Procrastinating my projects usually lead to a lower grade, which usually just leads to more stress. Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

The skills I had developed up until this point further evolved in the AP (Advanced Placement) English class I attended during my senior year. AP English was the most challenging literature class I took during my time in high school; it was also the most enjoyable and rewarding. We read literary works such as “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver; “The Invisible Man” by Ralph Waldo Emerson; “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley; “The Things They Carried” by ???; and “A Doll’s House” by Henrik Ibsen. Although the reading load was rather intense, I especially enjoyed applying the critical analysis skills I had developed up to this point to these novels. It is difficult to establish which book was my favorite to read and interpret; I found each to be eloquently written and representative of realistic life situations, both contemporary and historical.…

Freshmen year of college is a frightening thing to think, especially the frightening things you hear about it, such as a twenty-page essay APA style. Although actually going through your freshmen year you learn so much more than the four years of high-school you were enrolled in. Over the Spring semester I’ve developed more skills or habits when writing essays in this course as well in my other classes such as History, Marriage and Courtship, and Assessment and Observation. I’ve gotten much better at managing my own time since January giving me a sense of what needs to be done before the deadline approaches. I’ve improved on writing my outlines and become more assertive in my writing. Even before I began English 1320 my outlines were vague and didn’t have much details as to what I have planned on talking about in my essays. My evidence in previous essays wasn’t as credible and present as it is now in my current essays. I’m now able to write more than I used to and not fear the number 1,000 or 2,000 word essays mostly due to the fact of learning to use the database.…

Throughout the years of my schooling experience I’ve adapted a love for writing and have came to love writing essays. As students moan and groan I silently rejoice because I get a chance to express myself through writing. To me, writing is like an art people use to express things the can’t say face to face. Out of the essays I have written so far this year I definitely have my favorite little pieces. Every writer has that little ‘I really love this part’ in any of their pieces. But, altogether my favorite thing about my writing would be my creativeness while writing. In my personal narrative, titled The Memories That Make Me, the introduction states “Over the months and years, we’ve grown like a melody to its lyrics, inseparable. And now the memories stick like glue… I was almost too quick to judge.” Personally, the metaphor incorporated into the introduction sets off the paper. Towards the beginning of the year we studied origin stories. How Murder Came To Be was one of the most challenging but the…

It has been warm outside my whole life. I have only seen snow twice. Growing up in central Texas doesn’t mean I ride a horse to school, or dress exclusively in boots and a cowboy hat. It does, however entail long stifling days and only slightly cooler nights. I don’t know what cold really is. The lowest temperatures I’ve ever experienced were in the high 20’s. I’ve always longed for a change of scenery, desired the exposure to a different environment, both physically and socially. I got a taste of that a few years ago when I travelled to West Virginia to visit family where people are different and places actually have seasons. Not just sweltering hot in the summer and slightly cooler in the winter. I love the southern charm of my native Texas, but when that’s all you’ve ever known, you can’t help but feel a bit inexperienced.…
