Reflection: Panhellaternal Leadership And Values
When first attending The University of Akron in fall 2013, the first activity I participated in was a living-learning community for Speech Language Pathology. After, my first semester I decided to become a part of something bigger than myself and that was Alpha Phi. After joining Alpha Phi, I was also initiated into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I have held positions within Alpha Phi such as, Public Relations and Advertisement chairman. While holding this position I was in charge of collecting all the donations for Red Dress Gala; our philanthropy event where we raised over 10,000 dollars that year. While holding a position in Alpha Phi, I also held a position on the Panhellenic Council as the Vice President of Communication/Marketing. …show more content…

Every semester we are required with my sorority to have over 15 community service hours and I continue to go above and beyond with community service. My internship has inspired me to become a better person and receive my masters in Social Work to open my own non-profit organization revolving children in the foster care system. I am also a volunteer with the Summit County Foster Parent Association, where I attend monthly meetings to watch the children. My last and final organization I am an advocate for is the Rape Crisis Center here on campus. I am currently applying to volunteer with them this semester where I will work with the victims of sexual assault. I am constantly pairing the Panhellenic Council and the Rape Crisis Center for events to spread awareness of sexual assault. This 2016 fall semester I was chosen to lead the Take Back the Night walk across campus and speak at the end. I was honored to represent as a survivor and someone who finds passion in helping organizations on our campus. I am now currently chosen to represent Greek life and the Panhellenic Council for the Rape Crisis Center photo shoot this

Spelman College’s motto, A Choice to Change the World, mirrors my goal as a member of this intellectual community. During my first year at this institution, I dedicated myself to several hours of community service. I found that this was a vital part of my intellectual growth as both a student and person within society. This year I volunteered for several nonprofit organizations, however I dedicated most of my time to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Before volunteering for this organization I was not quite sure how I would be able to make a significant difference in my community. However, when I volunteered for this organization, I was able to tremendously help people in Atlanta. Likewise, this experience opened my eyes to the increasing…

Since middle school, I have been involved in numerous local beach and river cleanup events. In Nature Academy I was able to design my own community service project. During 7th grade, I banded together with a few fellow classmates and we decided to clean up the streets of Felton one staple at a time. The state of the poles there were horrible; covered in the metal pieces from prior flyers posted there. After several weeks and hours, we had defeated the evil staples. In 8th grade, I had done some more community service on a smaller scale. By helping out in the community garden at school, I had helped the crops grow, that were then disbursed to families in need of fresh…

I remember when I was younger I had to go visit the doctor for all my sport related injuries. The doctors always put your best effort into making me feel better and I was resort I was so indebted to them, even though my insurance paid them for their services I was morally indebted to them because of their kind efforts. As a result, during the summer of 2012 I began volunteering at the Lower Keys Medical Center. I felt it was important to help the nurses and the intensive care unit because of all of the duties they have on their plate, they should not be held responsible for all the minor ones. I continued to volunteer at the Lower Keys Medical Center throughout my second third and fourth year of high school because I truly Felt like I was making a difference in these patients lives.…

I was so focused on the academic aspects of school my freshman and sophomore years’ that i wasn’t active in any of my school’s clubs or activities. I finally decided to get more involved my junior year and I joined nearly every club, participated in every activity, and even went to as many sports events as I could have. I currently am a six year member of the National Beta Club and have held the positions of Vice President of Fundraising and Senior Representative throughout my high school career. Not only am I a leader in the Beta Club, but I participate in the Trailblazer leadership program with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance and my school’s freshman mentor program. It has been almost a year since I joined Alpha Beta Gamma. The thought of belonging to an honor society excites me, from the day I received an invitation letter to this present day. I initially saw it as an opportunity to boost my resume, but now I see it in a whole different perspective. Honor societies are organizations intended to benefit and group like-minded individuals together based on academic excellence. However, Alpha Beta Gamma is more than just your average honor society. It is a place where intelligent minds come together to share ideas and provide services to the community. This means volunteering to assist certain organizations and businesses who request our help. Not only do we aid businesses, we also assist individuals by teaching…

As apart of my service, I assisted in helping the community as well as others through the Notre Dame Annual Pilgrimage, Harvest Kitchen at St. Kevin’s Roman Catholic Church and participating in the Notre Dame Walk Against Male Violence. In October of 2010, I walked and raised money for the annual Pilgrimage at our school which involved trudging the distance from our school to the Allenburg Bridge. The money raised assisted those in third world countries mainly going to a facility called Yancana Huasy intended for the use by mentally and physically challenge young adults. The money is also sent to Haiti, Peru and the Dominican. As a volunteer for Harvest Kitchen my responsibility was to help deliver the meals to the people as well as work the handicap elevator in order to assist immobile people. Other duties included clearing dishes, socializing with others, setting up and serving food and drinks. Lastly, I also participated in the Walk Against Male Violence in which I was required to raise money and walk the 5 Kilometers as a method of raising awareness and money for abused women.…

My experiences serving others have exposed me to the issues my community faces and have shown me that I can make a difference. My first experience working with underserved populations in my community was serving food at Union Station Homeless Services’ Thanksgiving Dinner in the Park in high school. This made me step out of my comfort zone and interact with a group I was unfamiliar with. Through serving food and interacting with homeless and low-income families, I saw that my small actions could brighten one’s day. This inspired me to start Heal L.A. at UCLA with some of my classmates. We wanted to help the significant homeless population surrounding our campus in any way possible. What started as buying meals and conversing with them has grown…
