Research Purpose introduction

The wetlands of Reddam house is a vast area of life and can be a very sustainable environment for living organisms provided that it can meet the requirements of a suitable wetland biome that supply the necessary. This research task will then provide a good indication as to whether it’s a good decision to introduce more wild life into the area or whether we should remove wild life from the area. The wetland biome is one of the most diverse biomes, containing the highest count of different species of organisms out of all the biomes therefore it is critical to conserve it and take care of it because losing a wetland could lead to losing a wide variety of animals and insects. I conducted a water sample test that showed the pH of the water is at an average of 7.72 which is a perfect pH for organisms to not just survive but also thrive off. There was an average of 0.5 Chloroforms per 100ml found within the two samples which are also a very safe number showing that the water isn’t polluted to an unsafe extent but rather a clean, viable amount. This amount of faecal chloroform shows that it has very little risk of causing any health problems to humans, a higher number of faecal chloroform would then mean that the water would have to be filtered or treated to kill off and visual or microscopic toxins within the water so it can then be deemed as a same water source that’s drinkable for animals and safe to sustain water life. The water contains conducticity of less than 70 mS/m which indicates that the water has a very low concentration of pesticides, sewage and other harmful substances within the water showing that its safe for human consumption. The turbidity of the water is tested as being slightly salty (greater than 1ntu) but this is only a aesthetic property that won’t affect the waters purity nor the “healthiness” of the water. I also had an observation tally of the hadidahs that I saw within the area, the tally average of 12 across the two days shows that there is good number of birds for the area provided, birds like these are good for maintaining the area of insects and then providing as food for bigger

    According to the U.S EPA, a watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place. On our trip we were able to conduct some experiments on the water. Our group did an experiment on the pH of the river water. The pH was around 7-7.5, which according to the scale is neutral. This number means that the pH of the river water is close to the pH of tap water, but we still probably shouldn’t drink the river water without filtering it first. Another experiment we did in class after the field trip was to calculate the Biotic Index Rating of the river to figure out how polluted the water was. In order to do this we took the number of a certain species living in the water and multiplied that amount by their tolerance level (how much the species can stand pollution). That product was our Biotic Index Value. Next we divided the Biotic Index Value by the total number of organisms. This gave us our Biotic Index Rating, which for the Nashua River ( a tributary of the Merrimack River) was about 5.97. According to the scale given meant that the water quality was good, but might be slightly impaired. I went on this similar field trip in fifth grade, where I did similar experiments .
