Red Ants Pants Case Study
Colhoun decided to keep her production in the United States. Most clothing corporations use other countries with low cost labor to produce the clothes. She uses a mother-daughter owned factory in Seattle. They have 23 workers who enjoy good working conditions, and are treated and paid well. There are many customers who will not buy clothing that was not made in the U.S. because of poverty, but by being based in the United States she guarantees that the workers who made the pants/clothing are well paid and treated fairly. Also because the pants are made with such durable fabric you can wear them for about three times longer than average jeans used for work. She was thinking about trying to get her pants into retail stores around the U.S. but they would demand that she have a certain supply always available and at a certain price or they would not agree to sell the pants in their store, so she then decided to keep it web based letting the customers pick which pair they think would best fit …show more content…
She has her website, and postal services and that is really all she needs besides to be able to contact her customers. One of the most important things to Colhoun is making sure the pants fit so she welcomed all her customers to return and exchange the ones that did not fit for a different pair. Red Ants pants clearly states that women would rather go in no pants than in pants that don’t fit. Also, she wants the woman wearing the clothes to be comfortable, feeling good, and able to work with no restrictions. Calhoun first decided to make Red Ants Pants in 2006 when she thought about how many different companies make and sell men’s work pants but none for women. She bought $45,000 worth of chocolate brown fabric before finding out that it was in style. About two years later her company began making other women’s clothes such as shirts,
