Fifth Element star, Milla Jovovich is sitting on the bed, wearing little more than her birthday suit, gazing longingly into the eyes of the man before her. Every detail of her body is in perfect focus. Her forehead glistens with the shimmer of an unconfident sweat. Milla has starred in a number of hit films, graced the cover of hundreds of magazines, and been the focus of thousands of advertisements, but the is no trace of a strong, independent, confident woman. She leans forward with a modest, crooked posture, one arm, defenselessly on her lap, the other supporting her limply. Most of her skin as well as all of her physical flaws are visible; she cannot hide anything. Her companion is wearing black. Most of his features that would be visible the angle are shadowed or out of focus. His flaws are wholly masked. He towers over Milla, literally casting his shadow upon her. His fully covering clothing leaves everything to the imagination and hides any possible flaws he might have. His hands are behind his back, he puts nothing regarding his personality forward and he presents a strong, unflawed image.…

Some tragically developing eating disorders, such as Mary-Kate Olsen and her battle with anorexia and bulimia (Tauber, Smolowe). While this is heartbreaking for the celebrity, it can be equally as devastating to those that idealize them. Some people will see these stories and conclude that starving themselves or binging and purging is the only way to achieve the figures that they find desirable, or are told to find desirable. In truth, in doing this they are only hurting themselves not just physically, but psychologically. Celebrities set the bar of physical beauty so high that even they can have trouble reaching it, much less the average, everyday…

Above the luminous planet of Tatooine, a Rebel frigate, Tantive IV, races away from the Imperial predator known as Darth Vader. It’s lasers cause no harm to the Star Destroyer looming behind them. Soon after the lasers overheat, the Star Destroyer catches up to the ship, pulling it into the docking bay using a tractor beam. The crew aboard say their prayers as the hull of the Star Destroyer overlaps the Tantive IV. Elsewhere, aboard the ship, the senator known as Leia Organa makes her way to a secluded area. She gets down on one knee as she faces an astromech droid; it’s name being R2-D2. The droid opens its projector, allowing Leia to begin her transmission, “I am Senator Leia Organa of Alderaan. Miss America Article

The article, “Miss America and social media’s ignorant bigotry” written by Leonard Pitts Jr. is about how people label all Indian people as being Muslim and view them as terrorists, even though they are not Muslim. People in the US commit acts of violence against people from India who are presumed to be Muslim, and assume they are terrorists. The recently crowned Miss America is of Indian descent and people feel that this is not acceptable, and some people feel Miss America should be white with blonde hair and blue eyes. These pageants should not have the prejudices of people with foreign descent. The main point of this article is to illustrate the problems Indian people as well as people from the Middle East presently face in the US. They are disrespected and acts of violence are committed against them. Some people in America tend to be ignorant towards people from middle Eastern countries and in some cases, fear them. Some make certain stereotypes, like all Arab people are terrorists, for example. I agree with the article’s purpose. I feel that many Americans are very prejudiced and tend to dislike people of Arab descent, because of the groups they are associated with, in this case, terrorists. I think that this topic is very popular in present time, and is also very controversial. Many people have different views about it, and I feel this topic is imperative and needs to be discussed more often. I knew about this topic, but after the Miss America competition, I didn’t know that people posted images and comments on social sites that spoke so negatively about Nina Davuluri. I feel that is despicable and is truly a shame. Nina should be viewed the same way as any other pageant…

Marie Claire featured a three page spread of airbrush, free nude photos of Australian model, Jennifer Hawkins for the ‘Love Your-Self Campaign’ supporting the Butterfly Foundation. The photo shoot supposedly revealed Jen, “one of the world’s rarest beauties with all her flaws”. Reist correctly states, Marie Claire inaccurately pins her ‘flaws’ as ‘impediments’ and immediately tags Miss Universe 2004 as ‘the Elephant Woman’ for owning hips. (Cite) Outrageous! Hawkins, size zero, pouncing around, nude with supposedly all her ‘flaws’ is meant to make me feel better? Well, no. It’s not like every woman possesses this slender figure. Magazines need to lessen their focus upon the “stereotypical thin, hot, sexy cult” and introduce more real, natural women.…

I’m trapped in a world of fame. Not much of my life goes unrecognized by the public eye. The bright cameras, the constant paparazzi, and the false accusations have taken over my life. I’m not quite sure what these “normal” people want to be famous for. They admire me. They want to be just like me. The numerous amounts of fan mail I receive darken my spirits. How could you look up to someone like me? Why would you trade your freedom to live the life I live? I am a slave to the industry.…
