The message of life or a theme the book, “The Maze Runner” is trying to convey is to never give up and persevere. In the book, Thomas thinks, “If Newt and the others hadn’t been able to solve the maze after two years of searching, it seemed impossible there could actually be a solution. The fact that the Gladers hadn’t given up said more about these people then anything else,” This quote tells the readers that even after 2 years The Gladers never gave up and kept on trying to solve the maze no matter how pointless it looked. Another example of perseverance is when Thomas is stuck in the maze with Minho and Alby overnight. Though all the Gladers said there was no chance of surviving in the maze in the night, Thomas did not give up and is able…

Throughout the novel, Thomas demonstrates his heroism through instances that illustrate his curiosity. He does not understand the Gladers way of life, or even why they ended up in a mysterious world called the Glade. “Strangely enough, he felt his fear whisked away like a swarm of gnats, caught in the wind, replaced by an intense curiosity. He wanted to know where he was and what was happening.” (Dashner 2). This quote shows that Thomas is curious because he wakes up in an elevator and has a very vague memory of his former life. He wonders how he got to…

Both my book, The Maze Runner, and the poem, Lost Memories, have something to do with lost memories. The main character Thomas awoke in a lift. He does not remember anything. The poems said "My mind went blank." This is similar to what Thomas feels. The book said "he didn't know where he came from, or how he'd gotten inside the dark lift" (2). He could not remember anything about his life besides his name. The poem also said "I can't even remember you." Thomas also "couldn't think of a person he knew" (2). he could not even remember who his parents were. When he got to the top, many boys greeted him into a place called the Glade. The poem states "What is this place, I ask as the tears…

Limping back to my car after completing a track meet, I curled into a ball, an excruciating pain radiating from my shins- a memory that will stick with me forever. The injury that I was experiencing was shin splints, an injury common in amateur runners. With shin splints comes a very large risk of a stress fracture which can end an entire career of running. Through my dedication to the sport as well as the support from both my teammates and coaches, and despite this injury which still plagues me, I have continued to push myself to become a great runner.…

When I decided to join cross country team my freshman year, I never envisioned myself being a part of what would become known as “the best team in Hammonton history.” Three years ago, I finished the season as one of the very worst on the team, with no expectations being placed on me for the future. Fast forward to one month ago, when I along with my fellow six varsity teammates lead Hammonton to its first Atlantic County Championship in school history. While much of my improvement can be attributed to my physical growth over the years, I would have never reached that level of success if I did not realize how important it is to maximize my effort in everything that I do. My success in Cross Country was not as much caused by my physical development, but more so by the evolution of my mentality.…
