Ralph Bunche: The Nobel Peace Prize
Did you ever wonder who was the first black man to win the Nobel peace Prize? Well it was Ralph Bunche. Bunche is the Noble Peace prize winner in 1950 for a arranged cease-fire between the Israelis and Arabs during a time of war. The Arab-Israeli war broke out in 1948, when five Arab nations invaded territory in the former Palestinian mandate (“Office of the Historian” 1). This war lasted till February of 1949, when the two sides reached an agreement, and Bunche was a major key in stopping fire between the two sides. Ralph Bunche was born on August 7, 1904 in Detroit, Michigan he grew up with his younger sister, but at a young age both his parent died (“Ralph Bunche” 1). One of Bunches other works was, he worked tirelessly towards the attainment of the United Nations goals of providing equality and equal rights to all peoples, religion, rights of minorities and issues of declaration (“1950: Ralph Bunche” 2). Bunches work impacted society by helping society to become equal to all races and religions. Another one of Bunches work happened towards the end of the 1950s when Bunche became U.N. under-secretary-general for special political affairs and had overseen the dispatch of thousand non fighting, neutral troops in the 1956 Suez conflict (“Ralph Bunche” 2). With Bunche dispatching over thousand non fighting troops in the Suez conflict it stop a war from breaking out and the deaths of thousands of soldiers. Bunche also impacted the society with his efforts in the civil rights movement, when he served as part of the board of the National Association for Advancement of Colored People for more than two decades (Ralph Bunche 3).
