Rain Symbolism
It is never a bad thing to have a rainy day because usually the next day is sunny. Well, On the planet Venus it rains for 7 years straight. But, when the rain does stop, there is only an hour of sunshine. It had been raining for seven years on the planet Venus, and the rain has finally stopped. The kids had all never seen the sun since they were about two years old and we're excited. But, one 11 year old girl named Margot stood apart from them, remembering when she lived in Ohio the sun was out almost all the time. She was quiet and did not want to share with the kids what she remembered about what the sun looked like. But later she shared her ideas when the teacher was gone, but the children didn't believe her and locked her in the closet. When the sun came out the children played for the hour they had but, they were sad when the it started raining again. However, when the kids were back inside, they remembered that Margot was in the closet and let her out. Sometimes little objects don't seem like much, but they can represent more than what they are. The symbolism of the rain, sun, and closet are all …show more content…
This is because it symbolizes depression, sadness, and dullness. This is because first, Margot wasn't interacting with the other kids because she was busy thinking about when she lived in Ohio and when the sun was out all the time. Also, in the book it states “Now she stood, separate, staring at the rain and the loud wet world beyond the huge glass.” Another reason why the rain symbolizes sadness, and depression is because it made Margot feel left out. I know this because in the story it states “She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost.” Finally, because when it was raining the kids and Margot were not enthusiastic, but we're always curious about when the sun is going to come out. This is how the rain symbolizes sadness, depression, and

I believe that the sunlight represents the virtue and goodness in each person. I am not quite sure about the windblown trees, but maybe it could symbolize the tormenting that Hester and Pearl have gone through, especially Hester in the town square, when she was forced to wear her Scarlet letter, and Pearl being ostracized for “being the product of a sin”.…

She is very depressed and sad because of the rain and the other kids bullying her.” And once, a month ago, she refused to shower in the showering rooms, had clutched her hands to her ears and over her head, screaming the water mustn't touch her head.” This portrays that is getting more and more depressed because of the endless rain coming down. Another way this is shown is when she is bullied by the other kids.Defenders may say that they offered to play but she just refused. This is not true because she is already depressed and is just never in the mood. This causes the other kids to eventually do even worse things.…

As someone reads, it is likely that they witness symbolism. Whether they notice or not is to be determined. Symbolism may serve a greater propose then it seem and it might even foreshadow a certain feeling or event. The novel The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is a novel about a dog named Enzo, who desperately wants to become a human. This is a novel about family, loyalty, and love, and reveals what it means to be human through the point of view of a dog. The plot is about the sudden loss of Denny's (Enzo's owner) wife, Eve, which pushes Denny’s in-laws to sue for the custody of Zoё, Denny's child. Stein’s use of dual timelines characterizes the inner human of Enzo’s consciousness; Enzo uses gorgeous metaphors to compare the conflicts in racing to the complications of life, to aspects of life such as injustice, death and loss, and the general conflicts that every human will eventually have to absolve in their life. Again, in the scene described in the last paragraph, when the girl stands up, she walks into the sunlight to look at the prolific section of the valley. The sunlight represents her hope of a happy future with her child. Furthermore, when the man calls her back he asks her specifically to come back into the shade. The shade which represents the concealment of their affair and the sorrow of losing her baby. This element of the sunlight versus the shade reveals more of the girl’s emotions to the reader.…

To add color and meaning to Janie’s journey, a number of everyday imagery from nature is sprinkled throughout the story to symbolize Janie’s growth and mirror her life experiences. Plants that bear fruit like the pear tree wither and blossom right alongside the dismal and cheerful events in Janie’s life. The ocean and its waves represent the undulating and varied forms of love that Janie received others. The horizon reveals the sun and its relation to Janie’s happiness and peace. The mighty forces of the hurricane show men’s weakness and lack of power and control in the face of strength that knows no mercy. Kate Chopin's "The Storm" is a short story written in 1898 but was not published until 1969. The story explores an excess of turbulent emotions of the protagonists in the backdrop of unexpected storm. Chopin effectively confronts the brewing conflict of the story by her unflinching depiction of the story through symbolisms. The symbolisms most evident in "The Storm" includes: the storm itself, Assumption, a small town in which the protagonists first met and whiteness as mentioned many times in the story.…

    The Poem Storm Warnings

In the poem, "Storm Warnings" the organization is very important to the fluency of the poem. In the very first line the reader starts to get a feeling of the literal meaning of the work. In saying, "The glass has been falling all the afternoon" one learns that a barometer is falling, hence bad weather is on its way. The allegory, symbolic representation, that "glass" is a barometer is because later in the poem, the words "instruments and weatherglasses" are used. The poets tone, the general atmosphere is dim and gloomy but one gets the feeling that the poem isn't about the storm but living through it. In the first stanza the reader understands that a storm is approaching, "gray unrest is moving across the land" and windows are boarded up to protect them from the forthcoming conditions. As the reader moves toward the second stanza, they understand that the storm is going to come as it has in the past, regardless of its prediction, but the metaphorical meaning starts to emerge. Time is cyclical as is the weather. In the third stanza the reader gets the impression that even if a storm or foul weather is predicted, one can only prepare for it, they can't change it. "The wind will rise, We can only close the shutters." Basically the storm will come and there is nothing anyone can do except plan for it. In the final stanza it appears that they have prepared for the storm; the windows have been shut, the curtains drawn, and the candles lit. "These are the things that we have learned to do Who live in troubled regions." In the last two lines of the poem, one understands that people have to adjust the way they live, especially in times of trouble.…

    Hard To Find Symbolism

    • 875 Words

Symbolism was found many times throughout the story. The first time I came around symbolism was when the family was talking about Toomsboro. Toomsboro sounds a lot like tomb so that symbolizes the eventual fate the family will soon meet. The next symbolism I found was when The Misfit’s car was going down the road towards the disoriented family. The car was described as “big black battered hearse-like automobile (145).” The reason that this is symbolism is because a hearse is what carries coffins to funerals. The Misfit’s car represents the intimate death that the family will soon meet. Lastly, the final symbolism is the cloudless, sunless sky. Most people would think that a day with no clouds would be a beautiful, happy day filled with fun; however, this family in the story thought that but it turned out to be their worst day. Usually when a murder takes place it happens at night when it is dark and no one is around. This murder happened on a beautiful day, but the main reason I brought up this is because when The Misfit shot the Grandmother, she feel back looking up towards the beautiful sky with a smile on her face. This symbol represents that the Grandmother found inner peace with herself.…

One narrative device that has occurred is symbolism. Symbolism occurs in part two of the novel through the snow. Snow is a symbol that occurs when Yolanda sees snow falling outside the window of her classroom for the first time. When Yolanda sees snow for the first time, it reminds her of the “flurry of chalk marks” (163) her teacher drew on the chalkboard when describing a nuclear war. When Yolanda looks back on this event as an adult, she says: “One morning as I sat in my desk daydreaming out at the window, I saw dots in the air like the ones Sister Zoe had drawn- random at first, then lots and lots. I shirked, ‘Bomb! Bomb!’… A few girls began to cry. But then Sister Zoe’s shocked look faded. ‘Why, Yolanda dear, that’s snow!’ she laughed…

    A Happy Day Turned Bad

It was a beautiful day. The sun cast it’s radiant rays upon a little small village in China. Little dust of ivory clouds navigated itself around the sky. On that day a naive girl of four years-old sat in her concise house of only one room., no bigger than a mini garage. An average size twin bed faced the wall, a bed that three people shared every night. A cheap old fashioned stove adjacent to the bed, and a cabinet where three utensils, three plates, and three pairs of clothes lay. I sat on the cold stone floor wearing my pink little summer dress while playing with my rusty train set. All days were the same for me. My parents both worked from when the sun rose to when the sun set, only coming home to make dinner. Life for me was quite lonely. I ran free through the village like a wild child, for no one cared. I became independent the day I could walk.…
