Racism has been a major issue which occurs at many different levels in certain fields. In sports racism is happening more often and is becoming a big problem. It has led to a wide range of incidents which have been shown in the media , such as football players kneeling during the National Anthem in remarks to President Donald Trump response to football. Sports such as hockey, basketball, football, and soccer, each have primarily dominant races that participate in them. Stereotypes is a also a main problem in racism like “ White people can not jump” or “Black people can not swim” Racism in sports plays a big role in this ranking, therefore racism is still exists today in society . The sports themself does not have racism but the people that participate in playing and watching the sport influences racism with the sport. Racism can be expressed in ways that differ from verbal statements. Racist chanting, crowd violence, gestures, and actions are other offensive acts of racism. Racism in some countries are handled with more caution than in America , for instance in Spain they have created a new law to fight racism in sports after several black soccer players there were targeted with insults and attacks. Athletes take drugs to improve their performance to help them prevent them from falling behind other competitors. Steroid usage is probably one of the most common drug misuses in sports competition. In 1975 , the first drug ban in the Olympics competition occurred because health issues were beginning to produce . Drugs usage in sports is unfair to the people that are competing with the athlete that contains drugs , the athlete has more of an advantage of winning considering that they are under the influence of drugs. If you want to win , then you have to put in countless hours of hard work and training in a natural process. The effect of drugs in sports is that when one person in that sport takes drug than it creates a domino affect , which other players would think that drugs would benefit them. Many say that drugs used in sports does not have side effect and irregular muscle growth , but other say “ steroids have few if any clinical benefits and produce serious side effects, even if not completely documented. Steroids increase cholesterol levels and, by implication, the risk of heart disease, they say. Oral steroids—though not the more common injected versions—also appear to be associated with liver cancer, they say.” (Jost 616-622) . By banning the use of performance enhancing drugs, just like steroids, sports competition will have a much healthier and fairer environment to participate
