Racial Diversity
Do you believe that diversity makes us thrive in our human experience? Would you consider racial diversity in U.S. schools a plus? If your answer is “yes” to each of the above questions, ponder my next statement. U.S. schools are severely lacking in racial diversity. Moreover, segregation in our schools has been enduring since the 1960s.

I strongly believe that teaching diversity and acceptance of differences is one of the most important concepts that can be accomplished by a teacher. We in America have so many different ethnic groups and races, that it makes it even more important to be able to accept diversity. In the classroom, these differences should be celebrated as a positive learning experience. Unfortunately, in the dictionary, the word diversity comes just before the word division, and some educators teach diversity as such. When diversity is taught, it should be done in a way that brings everyone together, not…

"Diversity" has become one of the most often used words of our time-- and a word almost never defined. Diversity is invoked in discussions of everything from employment policy to curriculum reform and from entertainment to politics. Nor is the word merely a description of the long-known fact that the American population is made up of people from many countries, many races, and many cultural backgrounds. All that was well known long before the word "diversity" became an insistent part of our vocabulary, an invocation, an imperative, or a bludgeon in ideological conflicts.…

Diversity and race have played a big part of our history and as a society we can learn and grow from this experience. Hispanic and American Latino or Mexican heritage have experienced many hardships during the immigration period to the United States. They originally came here in search of better jobs and housing but found that difficult when trying to gain citizenship. Some have lived here illegally forcing them to be sent back to their homeland. Because of this, many Hispanic people are looked upon as illegal aliens and treated as outsiders.…

The way, in which I define myself, is through my hobbies, friends, personality, and attributes. I chose to disclose my past because before I used to be a bad student that would always get into trouble. The main reason why I came to a school so far away from home was so that I could start over and mature before I return home. In 2010 53% of immigrants came from Latin America, 28% from Asia. 12% from Europe and 5% other, about 40.2 million foreign born residents. (Benokraitis, 2015). In my opinion I feel the views have changed due to the increase in racial diversity in America. It’s more common today to encounter several different racial groups on a day to day basis. The racial misconceptions of the past have changed today. It’s no longer taboo to date someone outside your own race. The one thing that always amuses me when they talk about immigration control is, unless you’re a full blooded American Indian we are all immigrants. People should remember how our own ancestors felt when they first arrived and treat new immigrants accordingly.…
