1. According to Google, race is defined as “…major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics”. The main word one needs to focus on when reading this definition is the word “physical”. According to anthropological studies and numerous articles produced on the subject of race, race is not a valid biological category but a specific category given to a group of people due to heritage.…
Race comes from the Spanish and Portuguese Latin word Raza, meaning “contest of speed” or “people of common decent.” Modern humans evolved from Africa and we were known as mongrels. Race is “biologically real” according to scientists but it’s actually an idea and assumption. It is divided into the four categories: skin tone, body shape, hair color and eye shape. Certain races are known for specific facial features, for example: Blacks are known for having wide nostrils and full lips, Whites are known for their lighter colored eyes and thinner lips, and Asians are known for having darker colored and almond shaped eyes.…
According to the google dictionary the term race signifies, “A group of people identified as distinct from other groups because of supposed physical or genetic traits shared by the group.” Basically, race is identify on how someone looks, and how their DNA are form. For example, if someone has dark features, big nose and nappy hair these individuals are considered as Black. If you had light features, long straight hair and nice fair tone color you considered as White. No one really knows how biology fits into all of this, but apparently for some individuals race is base on biology.…

Race is a factor of life that is constantly being judged by society. Society has created individuals who judge others on skin color, and ethnicity; spawning hate and spreading acceptance of different set of standards to each race. “Largely about what wealthy… white men wear in silicon valley and wall street” (Sengupta 228). Race is part of the identity, most of the time it determines how you are treated by others, how one’s life is lived, and which stereotypes are carried. “... from racist people who think all Asians look the same! or ...Why on earth would you say something like that?” (Chung para. 9). Race is the…
Beginning around the 1700s, under the development of technology in many aspects, the Europeans started their expedition to explore the world. After the discover of many unknown lands, they soon developed a policy to extend their power and influence through colonies, with violence and blood. The policy was known as “imperialism”. In Africa, European imperialists ruled, killed, enslaved, and traded millions of native Africans like merchandise while also robbing all the approachable natural resources. Imperialists apparently brought a catastrophe into Africa while they even caused a lot of leftover problems to the modern Africa. However, back to the 1800s, imperialists did not think imperialism was a fault. With better-developed technology, Europeans started to believe that they enjoyed superiority in all aspects, including economics, culture and race. They made up many justifications to defend their crimes that related to these three aspects. Most of the justification could be categorized into two camps: the “internal camp” and the “external camp”. In the “internal camp”, imperialists justified themselves by connecting “nationalism” and “imperialism”, which they believed ruling an “inferior race” was an efficient way to enrich their home countries. One of the related theories was “Social Darwinism”. The “external camp” believed the intention of imperialism was to help and benefit the “barbaric” natives. One of the popular theories was the “duty theory”. However, activist Roger Casement heavily criticized imperialism by using the same concepts. He disproved both camps by pointing that imperialism neither necessarily enriched nations nor brought any benefit to the natives. With his documentary report on the Congo Free State, which was privately controlled by King Leopold II of Belgium, we could observe the…

Race isn’t biological. It is in fact a social construct. People are categorized into race based on their appearance. Race has nothing to do with genetics and everything to do with society. The article states how race is a social construct, which is true. Race is so powerful, that it possess life or death consequences. The idea of race today was not existent in ancient times, centuries ago. Many of the ancestors would use race to tell one person from the next, not discriminate in the way that we understand today. As Europeans began colonizing new land, race proved a good way in control and overthrow. The dominant group in society would define race in terms of biology. If you were a black person then you were biologically inferior to a white…
By watching the film I have a deep understanding, I know racial distinction is not just by appearance, we don't really know what is race, actually the race is not important, but the race is still bringing great influence on people's lives. This film is about race, not about attitude and behavior of the individual, and in the past in the history of the institutional and policy in the United States is still on the basis of race, through sacrifice others bring interests for groups. The biggest benefit is the white, white we see at the time of life is so happy, but not because of their hard work, but because of their laws, courts, customs, even if the housing is a race.…

When people think about race and the different social groups that surround them, you also have to think of the stereotypes that go along with them. Assume that the world’s definition of race is “an idea or scheme recognizing that the human population divides into several distinct groups, the members of which have traits and skills in common with each other that they do not share with members of other such groups.” There are problems with this definition in many different ways philosophically, biologically, etc.…
Race has always been something that people around the world categorize themselves and also other individuals to specify who they truly are as a person. This is based on the different appearances that people see within their own society. This conception is currently reflecting on fundamental misunderstandings about the true nature of racial classifications. Race is more of a social classification rather than a biological one. Race is very powerful that many others do not see it to be. Race is a social vision that gives individuals different types of access to resources and also opportunities to follow. In our world in the past and also currently today, white people have more advantages in our community due to the creation that our government and society gives them. This topic affects everyone, whether we are informed about it or not.…

Every person has their own political beliefs about how things should work and function in our society. That being said I myself am no different, I believe that our society doesn’t function as well as it could because of some several factors. Since everyone has their own opinion, it can lead to controversy and heated debates. If more people took the time to look at both sides of the story instead of jumping to conclusions, we would have a better grasp on the situation at hand.…
