Quinceanera
Throughout history, most young girls have a Quinceanera which is a special occasion and traditional celebration of a young girl turning fifteen on her birthday and making a transition from child to adult. Reached maturity and eligibility for marriage, which has been custom in most countries. A Quinceanera is something that started many years ago when a Spanish conqueror brought the tradition to Mexico and other countries. Throughout most countries, parents don’t celebrate their daughter’s fifteenth birthday by having a Quinceanera; they celebrated daughter’s birthday differently from other countries. While in countries like Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central, and South America are the only ones who celebrate their daughter’s fifth teen birthday by having a quinceanera for them, which prepare them for womanhood in the further.
I remember the very first time when I attend to a quinceanera was when I was ten years old, and my uncle and aunt decided to celebrate my cousin Christina fifteen birthday by having a quinceanera for her. After two month of planning, my cousin Christina was getting ready to walk the hall to celebrate her fifteenth birthdays by having quinceanera. I decided go ask my cousin Christina one question, “What are certain steps a girl must go through before having quinceanera” She said that there are certain steps that a girl must go through before having a quinceanera. For instance, they need a court of honor and a theme, waltz and accessories for sweet fifteen, ceremony, dresses.
She started to explain that first step in having a court of honor is that she needs to find out what special people participate in what is called the court of honor. Usually, she selects her closest friends, and her brothers, sisters, cousins that are special people in her life with whom she wants to share the spotlight in her Quinceanera. And the second step in having a theme is that, in most quinceanera, it is traditional for girls to have a theme in

In my case, I didn’t have a ceremony celebrating my new cycle of life. For example, in the Hindu culture of India, a girl’s first menstrual period is often celebrated by bringing her presents and giving her celebrations. In the Hispanic culture, we (girls) get celebrated by having a Quinceanera, but it’s not celebrating our first period, but the point when we reach fifteen years old and we are therefore considered young women—it’s basically the same concept.…

The earliest mention of the island in the Western world was on a map by Lucas Janszoon Waghenaer, who labelled the island "Pulo Carcata." ("Pulo" is a form of pulau, the Indonesian word for "island".) There are two generally accepted spellings, Krakatoa and Krakatau. While Krakatoa is more common in the English-speaking world, Krakatau (or Krakatao in an older Portuguese based spelling) tends to be favored by Indonesians. The origin of the spelling Krakatoa is unclear, but may have been the result of a typographical error made in a British source reporting on the massive eruption of 1883.…

The Dominican Republic is an island nation of rich culture and lasting tradition, located in the Caribbean Sea. Winning its status as an independent republic in 1844, the republic is best known for its beaches, resorts, and unique history. However, it is perhaps the unique blend of cultural influences from around the world that make this beautiful island the fascinating area it is today. For at least 5,000 years before Christopher Columbus "discovered" America for the Europeans the island, which he called Hispaniola, was inhabited by Amer-Indians. Anthropologists have traced 2 major waves of immigration, one from the West in Central America (probably Yucatan) and the second from the South, descendant of the Arawakan Indian tribes in Amazonia and passing through the Orinocco valley in Venezuela. It is from this second source that the ancestors of the Taino Indians who welcomed Columbus on his first voyage originated.…

In Spanish countries birthdays for young and old are celebrated with much consideration. But Birthdays are celebrated just a little different from how we celebrate them in the USA. In Spain, instead of getting a punch in the arm for every year of your life, you get a tug on your ear… plus one for good luck. Another different custom in Spain is when you are old enough; you throw your own parties and treat your friends with appetizers and glasses of cold beer. But when you have your birthday as a child, your parents invite your friends over for snack time, and you have yema, an egg yolk flavored cake. Most of your life your birthdays will be low-key celebrations, but for girls they have one major birthday.…

Each year London attracts over 15.3 million tourists. For me London was more than just a holiday location. I moved from Amsterdam to London for the first time when I was six and a half years old, and instantly I felt a connection to the country, specifically that wonderful city. There was something about London that just drew me to it. It was Christmas time when I first saw the city, so I have always thought the bright lights had something to do with it. Nearly three years later, when I moved to Frankfurt, Germany, the connection I had with London began to weaken. Whenever I thought about the city, I still felt a sense of peace come over me, but it was not the same. As much as I wanted to be happy and at home in Frankfurt, there was just something missing. Luckily, two years later, I moved back to my city.…

    Empower Girl Child

In the next lines I propose to integrate the agenda of sexual and reproductive rights with the ordinary life of girls and adolescents. I will put forward good practices and make proposals to move forward on empowering and offsetting the discrimination that girls are suffering daily in Latin America. Myths and fears always appear when we talk about sexuality. This is increased when we think of sexuality and childhood. However, sexuality is part of our lives since our birth and to grow up healthy, scientific information about our body is needed. For a very long time the movement for rights related to sexuality and reproduction was dissociated from the movements promoting children rights. It is necessary to rebuild this bridge and to think of actions tending to the achievement of girl child rights, including her sexual rights. This is the most assertive path for the real empowerment of girls and women. If we can’t decide what happen in our bodies, neither we will decide other issues which concern our citizenship like vote, community involvement, etc. Who are the girl children? In order to design any policy, the first step is to clarify our framework. I propose to define girl children as a socially constructed category around female persons between 0 and 18 years. Childhood is built on the cross road with other identities we have as individuals. Ethnicity, class, nationality, family environment, sexual…
