The history of the development of government has been changing and still continues to change today. However, today in the United States of America, regarding the purpose of government and the necessity of such a government, has been a result of different ideas and opposing sides throughout the years. Many American’s ask why do governments exist? The major reason they do is because they create rules but what rules are necessary for people. Governments purpose is to protect people from problems, provide law and order in a society. They also are the institution through which society enforces its public policies. They all have different ideas on the role of government and how it should function within the society. Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto which introduces the role of government and how they play a role in economic affairs. This gave the thought that the government had the power to guarantee progress on reconstruction to strengthen and move forward into the future. In Mill’s book Principles of Political Economy he describes the function on society, production, distribution goods, and the role of the government in economic affairs. As we can see both Mill and Marx have the same idea on the government being involved in economic affairs. He relates society with economic affairs and describes it as a way of processing in knowledge and the recognizing that citizens should be protect. Mill’s argues that government can be broken down into different bodies which can be necessary or optional. He wrote this book to show the people of America that they need to have a necessary government in order to progress into the future. Without having a fundamental base of power a society cannot work with its own believes and take matters into their own hands because this leads to unfairness among others. That’s the minds of many Americans that, they don’t need a government in order to progress. That a
