Trump took the Presidential race by a storm instantly gaining supporters from across the nation. However, his strategy was like no other presidential candidate in history. Fearless and bold, President Trump fueled the racism and sexism of America becoming the talk of every community. Yet, some despised him hypocrisy, much more rejoiced his authenticity. He was not a politician nor did he spend decades working in Washington, but he a blatantly honest billionaire who had conquered the business world. Unfortunate for Trump, since his term began in January, he has finally realized that he needs actual political knowledge to govern the nation, a thought that had never crossed his mind. Many films come out each year that are unrealistic in comparison to the real world, making it hard for viewers to relate to the characters or to the story. Some of the best films make fiction believable, or they are based around real life events from the past. Movies released based on holidays in particular, can give the world visions of stereotypical American families that live and interact with one another unrealistically. Pieces Of April, directed by Peter Hedges, gives audiences a realistic example of how Thanksgiving can patch up holes between relatives and bring a family closer together. April, (the main character), shows audiences the positive transitions of her own identity throughout the film, as she makes a believable attempt at creating a better relationship with her family by hosting Thanksgiving dinner.…

There are many jokes about men saying women do not belong in the kitchen, which is in fact strange because most men are unable to even fix themselves a sandwich. Men assume that whatever a woman can do a man can do it better. Which maybe true but now days it is not because women are now working harder than men. In the passage Turkeys in the Kitchen, Dave Barry writes this passage to inform and entertain us on a very delicate subject of gender roles and gender inequality. Barry uses a tone throughout this article is facetious, stereotypical, and a simile to touch on theses subjects.…

Turkeys are iconic! They are respected birds so much so that Benjamin Franklin advocated for the turkey to be our nation’s bird instead of the bald eagle (Wonderopolis, 2014) and other founding fathers of the United States such as Alexander Hamilton once stated that, "No citizen of the U.S. shall refrain from turkey on Thanksgiving Day." (Trex, 2013). Could you imagine having a Thanksgiving table without the beauty of a golden turkey or going into a home without the aroma of this scrumptious bird? Heck no, that would not be right! So why should we continue to consume turkeys? Did you know that 3 ounces of turkey, breast, roasted, contains only 125 calories, 2 grams of fat, 0 grams of carbohydrate and a whopping 26 grams of protein (USDA National…

While I already knew that I eat a lot of food, what I did not realize was how much of the food I eat is packaged. In the tables 1 and 2, I put everything that was a local food into a bold font. It was only one item for each week, four brats the first week and three the second. They are from a local meet market, but even they are not very sustainable. Meat is very resource intensive to produce. Many more pounds of grain are fed to the animals to fatten them up than we get in return as meat. According to Lester Brown (2011), 35% of the world’s grain harvest each year goes towards making animal protein. Brown (2011, pg. 173) also states, “With cattle in feedlots, it takes roughly 7 pounds of grain to produce a 1-pound gain in live weight. For…

I walked into the kitchen and spotted a turkey and prime rib, chicken, smoked ham, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, candy yams, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and greens. The delightful scents of turkey and prime rib, cheese, buttered corn, sweet yams, and gravy filled the air. I hear a timer go off, an oven opening, a microwave beeping, barbeques grilling, and family talking. I taste all sorts of things such as turkey and prime rib, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, candy yams, mashed potatoes, and greens. I touch my fork and spoon, the glass full of water, my napkin, my plate, and my food. I sight, smell, hear, taste, and touch many things during my Thanksgiving dinner.…

If I were to ask you to think of a name that best defines the role of funniest and most ridiculous person in Hollywood, I would bet that several of you would come up with the name Will Ferrell. This shouldn't come as a surprise to any of you as Ferrell has filled hilarious roles in recent years such as Buddy the elf, Ricky Bobby the racecar driver, Ron Burgandy the anchorman, Chaz Michael Michaels the figure skater, and many others. Ferrell has become a modern comical titan as he blew away Saturday Night Live with some of the best ratings in history and has developed into one of Hollywood's funniest and highest paid comical actors. With the way that he can pull off dumb humor and make people fall out of their chairs laughing time and time again, it seems that Ferrell was destined to be a comic from the start, but it wasn't always that way. Although he is now regarded as one of the funniest and highest paid comical actors in Hollywood, Ferrell's comic acting career probably spawned from a childhood hunger that for a long time, even Ferrell himself was unaware of.…

We as family agreed her cooking skills are far too superior a thing to allow to go to waste. So whenever the opportunity arises, one of us is always helping grandma. Uncle Richard proceeds to slice the turkey ever so graciously making everyone at table froth at the…
