Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much Money Essay
The article “Do Professional Athletes get Paid too much Money” is written by Mihir Bhagat a senior analyst. Bhagat believes professional athletes make too much money. In his article he explains the amount of money someone is paid should be based on the economic importance and value of the job for society (1). He thinks playing a game isn’t very important when it comes to society (1). Bhagat states that teachers and even the president of the United States get paid less than professional athletes. The article then lists some of the other workers that are paid less than professional athletes such as firefighters, police officers, military workers, and doctors. This fact is truly sad because these people protect and save people in this country while …show more content…
According to Kurt Badenhausen, in the article “World’s Highest-Paid Athletes,” the top one hundred paid athletes collectively earned two point seventy-five billion dollars in last year which is up five percent from last year (1). This is concerning because the future of our country is not based on how well an athlete plays a game. Teachers should make more money if athletes are going to continue to be paid substantial amounts of money. The future of children are impacted by teachers and these children are the future of the world. If teachers continue to get paid less before long the world could see some horrific teachers. This is due to the fact that schools will start to hire anyone because people don’t want to be teachers anymore because they can’t make a living off of teaching. Also police officers, fire-fighters and military workers are protecting the United States by sacrificing their lives. Yet, these brave men and women only make a fraction of what professional athletes do. Doctors are the ones that help these athletes when they get injured and they still don’t make as much as professional athletes. This is a growing concern in the world

The top teachers in this country can make about one-hundred thousand a year teaching college, while pro sports coaches can easily make millions when coaching ANY pro team from any sport. Now why is there such a big gap between these two jobs, why do we put such a big value on sports, and are scores and statistics really more important then homework and grades? The reason coaches are paid so much is because the sports industry is a multi billion dollar industry, while schools are stare funded. Does that mean that being a teacher is a lesser job that being a coach? NO!!! If we didn’t have teachers in this country, then the athletes and the coaches wouldn’t be able to make the amount of money that they presently make. “Why do you say this Darius?” you may ask, but if you didn’t have anyone to teach you path, then making ten percent of what you are supposed to get paid would sound fair to you. Hopefully one day, the people who educate us will get their true props in our money based, egocentric…

Maybe college athletes should get paid because they half to work really hard to get on the college teams and leagues. The players play sports a lot as kids too get into college basketball, football, lacrosse, and college soccer. College players spend a lot of time practising and planning for all of their games and they even show more hustle than the players from the NBA. This already proves that they could and should get paid. As much as we all love watching sports we also love how the different skills are like College to the NBA.But that’s not all we like, some of us even like the college players more than the NBA players but it’s not like we’re talking about the very skilled ones like Stephen Curry, Lebron James, and Chris Andersen.…

Imagine this: you are in the military force, you risk your life on a day-to-day basis for our country's freedom. If you survive fighting, you sleep on an uncomfortable, rock hard bed and eat nauseating food. You work your tail off, yet you actually make less than the average American does yearly. Now, take into perspective, perhaps a professional boxer: they may risk their lives, but it's for our entertainment, not for our safety. When they are done wrestling, they go back to their five star hotels and eat gourmet food. They train, and yes, they may have worked hard to get to where they are, but they're out here making millions per fight, which is way more than what the average American makes. Look closer, should an entertainer really get paid such a profound amount for one fight, rather than those who work to…

There are extensive amounts of controversy in our society today, such as whether or not college athletes should be paid or not. Even though college athletes receive many luxuries they still have to make there own living and support themselves. As reported by “Pay or Scholarship” written by Teengagement, it states, “Athletes are employees because they work under the control of the college.” As many people know a business has employees, if an athlete can be considered an employee to the college shouldn't they be paid like and employee? Everyone in the world has expenses they need to pay -granted a college athlete has housing and meals and all that stuff- however many of them still need money to buy things such as: toiletries, new clothes, gas, and spending money.…

Does $5.15 million per year sound like a lot? Yes, this is an average NBA basketball players annually wage. This may sound like a lot of money but many people say the military should make this much too. This is not possible. Our military gets paid from tax income of the country. The United States gets $3.7 trillion in income tax. If you divided that among all the soldiers and pay them what pros get paid, this is how much it would be. It would be 7.8063324e+12, that's a lot. My main three reasons for thinking pros should get paid more than soldiers are not enough money, just as much training, and they get paid from different sources. Athletes get paid from millions of fans ,and military gets paid from the United States defense budget.…

The Topic I decided to debate was should college athletes be paid a salary? The side that I decided to pick was the pro side. To begin, every year new college athletes are drafted, they are excited to play a college sport and represent their school.”Journalist Michael Wilbon has written that seeing the $11 billion deal between the NCAA and CBS/Turner Sports for March Madness between 2011 and 2024 prompted him to change his mind about paying student-athletes. First of all, this deal shows the amount of money the NCAA is bringing in over the course of one month alone. March Madness is one of the most watched sporting events in history. Not to mention the money being made off this event is not trickling down to the players, who are the stars of the tournament.”…

Student-Athletes who are recruited to play a college sport are going in with one goal, to play their sport professionally by being the best player they can be. Unfortunately only about 3% percent of NCAA athletes in their respective sport go on to play professionally. The other 97% spend hours and hours of their precious time practicing on the field all for no future in that specific field of work. Actually according to Forbes, Marc Edelman reports “student-athletes work 3 and a half more hours a week than a typical american worker”(Forbes) If an NCAA athlete spends over 40 hours a week practicing their game, then they are working the same amount of hours as people who are in full employment. These hours are spanned over practices, training, games traveling, attending classes, and maintaining grades which is important in order to remain on the team and keep their full scholarship. For people that complain about their jobs and only have to work less than 40 hours a week, think about a student athlete whose job is not only intellectually demanding but brings them to the limits of their physical endurance as…

Receiving scholarship money sometimes is the only way a student is able to attend college. Scholarships can pay for your academic, housing and athletic needs. According to the NCAA, a team participating in this year’s Men’s Basketball Tournament could earn nearly $1.67 million. That is a large amount of money for a school’s athletic budget that is earned through the talent of college athletes. Depending on the success of a college team…

College athletes have made over two billion dollars for colleges all over the country. Over the years, college athletic programs have been a growing business for colleges to make insane amounts of money. Being a player at a Division I university can be an emotionally fulfilling experience; however, universities see it as an opportunity to profit more than multi-million dollar companies. College athletes should be paid. The way college athletes are so electrifying on and off the court or field should be worth something, but all they are worth is a $58,000 scholarship. Duke University made over four million dollars being in the final four tournament in the 2015 season. In the 2015 article written by Nicole Pence, it states, “There have been a few schools in the NCAA who have adopted Obama's idea of paying college athletes 5,000 dollars a year plus their scholarship.” The growing business of college athletics will soon be bigger than the NBA. Colleges are all struggling with the decision to either spend more money on payrolls for athletes or lose good players. The college athlete is a fine tuned…

A debate has ensued over whether or not colleges should be able to pay their athletes, due to athletic programs bringing in so much money for schools. Not paying college athletes would be good because students already receive compensation towards college, students are given many auditions to become professional, and college is not a job. On the other hand, others argue that college athletes should be paid because schools and coaches are rich from the students' work students do not have any time to have a job, and not paying the athletes may violate federal antitrust laws. The National College Athletic Association, founded in 1910, oversees college athletics. The NCAA established a rule later on stating that it is forbidden to pay college athletes. College athletes should not be paid because it would be unfair and take away college's real purpose.…

On the other hand, Roberto Hinojosa, a high school math teacher, disagrees with that statement. Roberto believes professional athletes are overpaid as compared to the salaries of public service workers, such as police officers, fire fighters, and teachers. Individuals such as these lay their lives on the line daily, and teachers motivate students towards higher learning as well as guiding willing students towards helping themselves to acquire the knowledge they need to know to become productive adults. All of these public servants are paid a great deal less, over the life span of their career. Salaries for a teacher average $50,950 a year, a police officer, $50, 512 per year, and a lead firefighter, $57,000 per year, as compared to a football player earning $32.4 million per year.…
