This has led to a series of obstacles, one of them being, issues with sanitation. According to the United Nations, 29% of the population do not have access to an improved water source which negatively affects sanitation within the country (United Nations). Numerous waterborne diseases are being spread as a result of the consumption of unsanitary water. Furthermore, since the people of Rwanda do not have easy access to water, they have to use what they have in a wise manner. This often results in poor hygiene practices which can also lead to a number of diseases such as diarrhea, and in some cases, death.
