Preschool Observation Paper

While observing the lab preschool her on campus at Central Michigan University I learned a lot. I saw a variety of things from the teachers and staff being concentrated on the children, explaining directions multiple times, to having an organized agenda planned out ahead. I observed from 12-12:35 which was in the middle of lunch so I saw the kids eat lunch, play with toys and climb on the rock wall, and the beginning of small group activities. The lunch room where I observed was a big open room which was very organized and clean. Before the kids started eating the napkins and silver wear were all set out and ready for them while the food was brought to each table of 5 kids and a staff member after they washed their hands. While observing I saw that each of the 10 adults in the building, compared to the 32 kids, were walking around each part of the room checking on all the kids and not standing still and talking to each other. Also the teachers and staff members were having eye to eye conversations with all the kids and tried to engage the other kids who were a little bit shy into the conversations. Most of the conversations that I heard were about what they were going to be for Halloween, how old they are, and if they have any brothers and sisters. This part of the lunch I thought was special because the kids are able to have a connection with the teachers that sit with them but also have their friends around them so they are not alone. After lunch each kid waited in a single file line to use the bathroom to wash their hands before they could go play with all the toys. This part is important because it teaches the kids to be sanitary by washing their hands after they eat but also keeping the lunchroom and toys clean, especially because this was a day before the preschool shut down for having hand foot and mouth and
