In 1979, when Frank D’Amico was staying in the mansion his wife experienced something rather bizarre. It was late in the night and she was preparing to climb into her bed when she saw what looked like a dark figure standing at the foot of her bed. It seemed to be coming straight towards her in a strange gliding motion. Panicking, she found the lamp on her bedside table and turned it on. As the light flickered, it illuminated all corners of the bedroom and there was nobody there. Whatever dark figure that had sent chills down her spine had vanished as suddenly as it had appeared.…

There are good guys and bad guys in the world. People love to stay with a kind person since kind people are sincere and care about others. But people are not willing to be close to bad guys because they always bully others. Similarly, there are good ghosts and bad ghosts. People don’t hate good ghosts because they don’t hurt people. They are willing to know and stay with good ghosts. On the contrary, evil ghosts are scary. Those vile ghosts’ presence always means misfortune since they often hurt others without thoughts (thinking) and make others’ lives suffer. Lafcadio Hearn in “Nightmare-Touch” states that being touched by ghost is the common fear of people. However, a ghost’s touch is not the common fear of people. What…

There is a strong relation, throughout history, between religion as a belief, and the idea of ghosts as a part of this belief. Some ethnic groups believe in spirits and they do some religious rituals as a way of getting closer to the souls of the ancestors and satisfying them. Native American believes in reincarnation of their ancestor's souls. Also, Tlingit ethnic groups in Alaska and other ethnic groups in Australia and Africa believe in reincarnation. This relates to our subject through the idea of transportation of spirit, as invisible thing, to another creature or inanimate being and they can contact with them through some rites. The faith of hidden forces, believing in the supernatural, reincarnation, soul restriction, soul liberty or…

Originally, the governess takes the job at Bly for the money and because she is interested in the uncle. However, once she begins her job and starts looking after the children she becomes extremely invested in her job, she even starts to become obsessive over the children and does not spend much time without them, “Let me add that in their company now—and I was very careful almost never to be out of it—I could follow no scent very far” (63). Also once she starts to “see” the ghosts, she starts watching over the children more closely, even to the extent of staying awake until the children are safe and sleeping. Because of this, the governess begins to lose sleep. The governess even says to herself that she has not had much sleep (108). Since she says this, it is possible that she is becoming so tired, from keeping such a close eye on the kids, that she is starting to see things and convince herself that there are things, or people, there, that really are not, like the ghosts. Throughout the novel the governess becomes very obsessive and possessive over the children, and this could be one of the reasons that she makes the ghosts up. If the ghosts are there and they are trying to take away the children, she…

Whether you side with the spiritual side or the scientific side, the poltergeist phenomenon is one that is difficult to wrap your mind around. There are many things revolving this phenomenon that are still unknown. Thanks to the curiosity sparked up in the minds of the dubious, we are not so much in the dark in regards to this phenomenon. Poltergeists were present in the hauntings of Amityville, and they exist among us. It is wrong to view the stories of the families that lived in the Amityville house as a hoax because it is clear that there are outside forces that we are not all well informed about; and just because we are ill-informed, does not make them any less…

    2. The rasuk/possession is a different story. This one, I saw with my own eyes. Real crazy stuff. Rasuk/possession is when a thing enters your body, with the intention to hurt you and the people around you, and use your body to do various things. The word here is ‘possession’. The girl at my level started dancing, and laughing, and screaming and shouting, walking here and there, and it was going in and out of her body so it was like she was her one second and another person the next. When it was happening at the early stages, my roommates and I turned on the Yaasin on a speaker in our room and sat together. And then we heard it: something screaming outside our window, as if trying to block out the sound of the Yaasin. When we paused the playback, it stopped screaming. When we turned it back on, it started screaming again. It was horrific. So we told our senior, who was at our level, handling the girl that kena rasuk. She then told us to just keep playing the Yaasin and ignore the sound, or leave the room and go to another room and stay there. We did the latter. When we went to the other room, and as we were just about to close our eyes to sleep, we heard a different sound: someone tapping at our window. Mind you, we’re on the third floor. Then we heard another sound: tapping on the bed posts. By that time, the girl that kena…
