Pirates of Silicon Valley The Pirates of Silicon Valley was more of a documentary movie where it talked about and followed the life of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, which were founders of Microsoft and Apple. The movie takes you through the process of how they started their respective personal computers and companies. Both guys were very intelligent individuals which they both knew so that’s why they worked together to lift both organizations. Greed, personality, and determination from Steve Jobs and Bill Gates brought immediate success to each other. Steve greediness worked for him for awhile which helped him get where he got to in life, which was right into the ground. Steve wasn’t looking for what was best for the company both long and short term. He saw it as a joke at first until his main partner Steve quit on him. Steve Jobs virtually split the apple and Macintosh up within the company which caused various problems. His selfishness, trust, and dignity drive him to a point where he couldn’t handle the pressure and everything that comes with the company. Bill Gates on the other hand thought out every alternative as well as stealing idea like Jobs did to Xerox. Bill Gates evolutionary invention of windows brung a rivalry between Macintosh. Bill always figured out a way to out think Steve in many ways which later gave him the upper hand in the computer world. Bill calm-savvy personality helped him prosper other than the hot headed Jobs. What I found very interesting was how Bill Gates managed to keep windows a secret from Jobs until pretty much the release. It goes to show in the business and marketing world that no one is trusted.

Everyone knows of the popular household names Apple and Microsoft. Apple was started by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. They created the first Apple computer in Jobs’ parents garage in the 1970’s. They knew that they had created something great so they called their company Apple. Bill Gates on the other hand created Microsoft. He never made a computer; what he did was create software and put it on other computers. Allegedly, Bill Gates stole Apple’s Macintosh prototype software from Steve Jobs. Gates only received the prototypes because Jobs thought he could trust Gates, but he was sorely mistaken. These two popular household names are similar, but they have differences such as ability to customize, operating system, price, and virus protection.…

The article says, “The key to Jobs’ success is a combination of quality, innovation, and market strategies that were designed extremely carefully” (postcron). He wasn’t the one who actually made the first Apple computer, it was his partner, Steve Wozniak. Steve Wozniak was a great guy because all he cared about was making technology, unlike Steve Jobs whose main goal was to make money. Steve Wozniak also believes that Steve Jobs had some knowledge to make money. Steve Wozniak says, “You really need the vision like Steve Jobs had, but the vision doesn't go anywhere if you try to jump in and build products before they are cost effective for what they do, return on investment is there” (business insider). Steve Jobs looked everything in a different way. He looked at this opportunity as an art and technology combined. For example, swishing with just one finger to see the next page on the touch screen. These innovations shaped our generation's…

I consider Bill Gates and Steve Jobs to be the greatest leaders in American business. Over the past 25 years, technology was the industry of choice for many of the top business people. Microsoft 's Bill Gates and Apple’s Steve Jobs both exemplify the explosion in that realm. Gates, Microsoft chairman and world 's richest man, is the No. 1 business leader of the past quarter-century for his mix of entrepreneurial energy, dogged leadership and philanthropic interest. The points that make them great leaders are the fact that they were both great visionaries. For example Bill Gates vision was that “Every business and household must have a computer and must run Microsoft software” while Steve Jobs vision was “to make the best devices in the world, not to be the biggest”. Other important point was the fact that they considered failures to be learning lessons. Bill Gates quoted in one of his conferences that “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning”. Another important point that distinguishes them from being managers is the ability to recognize an opportunity and the ability to capitalize on that opportunity. Inspiring trust within the employees of an organization is also a key feature of a leader, a feature that was well executed by both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. It was there leadership qualities as well as their managerial skills that enabled them both to be huge business successes.…

From his first business venture through his multi-billion dollar deals, Bill Gates has always been a ferocious and keen businessman. Bill Gates first started tinkering with computers when his high school, Lakeside Prep, wanted to acquaint its students with computers. In 1968 the school held a fund raiser to buy computer time on a DEC PDP-10 computer that was owned by General Electric. Lakeside was able to raise enough money for what they thought would be ample time to last throughout the entire year. Bill Gates, along with Paul Allen and a handful of friends, used all of the purchased computer time within a few weeks. Most of them were spending all day and night in the computer lab; some even began to skip class and failed to turn in homework because of the allure of the computer. After they were out of computer time the school had a lucky break as one of the student’s father worked for a company called Computer Center Corporation, a company that offered affordable computing time. A deal between the school and CCC gave Gates much more computer time than the original deal had. Immediately Gates and friends began pushing the boundaries of the machine they were given. They crashed the system several times, which also led to the security system on the computer breaking. However, they did not get into trouble until it was discovered that they had edited the files that tracked the amount of computer time they used. It was this exploit that got the group banned from the computer lab, but later was the reason that CCC hired the programmers.…

Some of the opportunities Bill Gates was given were his “free computer time at the University of Washington”(Gladwell, 2008) and also previous to that his mother along with others “had enough money to pay for his high school Lakesides computer fees”(Gladwell, 2008). Without the circumstance of Bill Gates receiving free computer time, chances are he wouldn’t have been nearly as intelligent and innovative with computers as he is today. To reiterate Malcolm Gladwell’s argument about super achievers are successful because of their families, in Bill Gates…
