Philosophy of Education Socrates claims that society existed to provide the best life for the individual, The Athenians of Socrates' day assumed just as their ancestors had assumed that the best life one could have, required the acquisition of what was called virtue, or excellence. A truly good person succeeded in doing great things for the city, strictly obeyed its law, honored parents and ancestors. As a future teacher, we should pay attention to improve our ideological accomplishment. Teachers should be strict with themselves, consciously abide by the rules and regulations and the relevant provisions of the school. Then should set a good example, maintain, the people with good and the body established to teach students to establish a model for the image. Teachers should have a high sense of responsibility. A qualified teacher should take on the history, society, the parents of the students the spirit of being highly responsible, and strive to make every aspect of the process of teaching and educating the work. There are many pioneers who advocatedthe education of women, such as Catherine Beecher, Emma Willard and Anna Julia Cooper. Education should for everyone. It is a requirement for us to do better in life. We all know about the quote that says "Education is the key to success." This is true, in a sense that we are capable of being successful and will reach high in life if we are educated. Education is what broadens our horizons for us to have a better and wider understanding of the world around us. It will help us know how things are working, and how they should be operated. Being in a civilized society, we need to have more knowledge on what the modern world has to offer. If not, then we cannot live our daily lives the way other people do.
According to an article named Progressive Education, Published on Wikipedia, modified on 14 November 2012. John Dewey’s thinking is that “Method is focused on the child’s powers and interests. If the child is thrown into a passive role as a student, absorbing information, the result is a waste of the child’s education. Information presented to the student will be transformed into new forms, images and symbols by the student so that they fit with their development and interests. The development of this is natural.” To repress this process and attempt to “substitute the adult for the child” would weaken the intellectual curiosity of the child. We need to teach students in accordance with their aptitude that is the key of teaching of reading. In view of the differences of individual, teachers should analyze the various factors which limits students’ improving of teaching ability and the effect degree for different students. Use different methods and demands to teach different ones. Those are what teacher’s duty. In one word: teacher should act according to the principles of keeping their interests and confidence. For some good fetching experiences and methods, we should borrow and learn, but every school has its own specific features. There are some differences in condition, power of teacher and supplies, and the intelligence of students. Consequently we cannot follow their old way blindly. The differences of the students remain the same in one school. Proceed from reality of the students in our school, seek truth from facts, and make our own teaching plan, and sum up our teaching method.
The content of education is not only the general culture knowledge but also how to live well in the complex society after graduated. School is a place for personal cultivation and improvement. Students will learn to find their real interests, perfect their personality, and form right outlooks toward the world. Furthermore, students will learn to gather, analyze, and evaluate information so that they can resolve problems in their lives.
In conclusion, I believe that education should be available for everyone and pay more attention to the individual’s need and ability. The teacher should have good quality and set a good example to students.
