Philosophy Of Childhood Education
As long as I could remember I have always loved working with children. I began working with children in high school when I helped coach an equestrian team. It was not until my sophomore year of college that I realized I wanted to become an elementary school teacher. After I spent a semester as a practicum student in a first grade classroom I realized that teaching was my life calling. Following my graduation, I dove into graduate school to further study childhood education. After completing my schooling, I accepted a position at a Title 1 elementary school in my home city. After a year of teaching at this school I have realized in order to grow as an educator, I must be challenged in another county.

As a child I always loved my teachers. They always found a way to make learning fun and exciting. I knew I wanted to work with kids when I got older and help them find learning just as fun and exciting as I did. Everyday I’d come home from school and teach what I’ve learned to my younger siblings using the same methods my teachers used. They began finding learning just as enjoyable as I’d hoped. From then on I was inspired to be part of the life changing team of childcare workers and instill the thoughts that learning is fun in young children today.…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

Being a teacher seemed to be the easiest career choice out there for me. After viewing the second grade classroom in Shepherdstown Elementary it is safe to say that I have changed my opinion of teaching. There is unquestionably another side to the world of a teacher that can only be seen inside a classroom. Watching the students made me realize that being a teacher will no doubt carry some difficulties but, it will all pay off in the end. Observing has made me realize that there is more to teaching, the classroom, and what goes on inside.…

I tutor elementary school children at the Granada Hills Branch Library in my spare time. I enjoy working with children because I admire their candor and energy. Moreover, I take pride in organizing activities in which the students learn work habits and the current material. For example, I let the children solve problems collaboratively and have them explain the answers. Contributing to my community makes me feel a deep sense of satisfaction because I love the spark of intelligence I see when a student answers a tough problem. My goal when I tutor is to hopefully ignite the minds of the youth into an inferno of knowledge, because education is a priceless…

It has been and is still is an amazing profession because you never stop learning new things and impacting lives and making a positive difference in the lives of children. I was losing my passion and joy for teaching but gained it back when I went to teach in Japan for 2 years. It was 2 years of rediscovering my joy for teaching others, 2 years of planning what exactly I wanted to do with teaching and a clearer picture of how far I want to go in my teaching career.…
