Lesson 1 : Man: The Crown of Creation
***A Christian Philosophy of Man
In order to break down the complexities of man, one must enumerate and dissect the many facets and relationships of man’s being.
***Concept of Man as the Crown of Creation
Man is considered as the crown of all God’s creation because he is the only created thing made in the “image” and “likeness” of God and, therefore, uniquely distinct in his existence. No other creature is like man; he is one of a kind. Only man has been “crowned with glory and honor.”
Moreover, according to the Holy Writ, man following his redemption by the Savior from eternal bondage, now shares in the infinite merits of his Redeemer and has become not only the inheritor of the new earth but also the heir of the heavenly kingdom (Montemayor, 2008).
Questions:
What is meant by the Imago Dei or the Image of God?
Is man indeed the image of a Deity?
What are the implications of man’s likeness to God?
Is man truly unique, and does he stand in special relationship with God? (Yes or No) Why do you think so?
According to the Old and New Testament, man was created by God. Specifically, the Scripture said, “So God created man in His own image” (Gen. 1:27), and “the rib which the Lord taken from man He made into a woman” (Gen. 2:22).

The different facets of man’s being are not of equal category or value.
For instance, the moral aspect is much higher in the hierarchy of values than the physical, the political and the social. The spiritual far outshines the material, the emotional and political.
Moreover, it should be noted that each human relationship does not represent a single value but a combination of it. Thus, the rational aspect of human nature includes the intellectual, the mental, the volitional acts and activities of man (Montemayor, 2008)

Human identity came hand-in-hand with everything God created. When HE finished creating everything, HE created Man in HIS own image and called him ADAM which means earth man and HE gave him dominion over everything HE had created. Man was placed in the Garden of Eden to till the soil and to maintain it, meaning he had to work for his living too as God himself worked to create the world. But when man fell, he was sent out of the garden and he had to work for himself, he had to toil and eat from his sweat and Eve too had to suffer in delivery and that has changed the human identity for ever, hence our need the work hard today to make ends meet. We also lost our immortality when Adam fell. God has made us in HIS own image, HE gave us HIS unique breath of life and because of that, we are able to think and…

“The most distinctive feature of the biblical understanding of man is the teaching that man has been created in the image of God”. (Hoekema, 1986). The bible refers to man being made in God’s image in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. In the Old Testament, the book of Genesis references man being made in God’s image in the Creation Story, in explanation of the generations of Adam to Noah and also again in the Covenant With Noah. Genesis: 1:26-28; 5:1-3 and 9:6. The New Testament references in many different books that man was made in the likeness of God and also speaks frequently of Jesus as being the perfect man who is made in the image of God. Hoekema states “Since Christ was totally without sin (Heb 4:15), in Christ we see the image of God in its perfection”. Christian belief follows that man was made in the image of God; however, differing theologians have developed differing theories over the years in regards to what it means to be made in the image of…
