In the TED Talk, Rita Pierson said that creating connections with the students can help the teachers be more effective at their jobs. Making connections with the students will create a safer environment for the students to express their feelings without fears. Every teacher needs to be passionate toward teaching and dedicate their sweats and tears to guide the students toward their dreams. Teaching will be effortless if the teachers have an open-minded with everything because it will help them with different students with different ways of learning. To create a strong connection with the students, the teacher should say “kind word, listened, cared, and loved. This is the power in you. Teach… and transform a life”(Castillo, “The Power in You: Teachers' Influence in Students' Lives”). Students will be more interactive if they have a positive feeling toward the classroom and the teacher. Students love when the teachers listen and understand them when they want to express their thoughts on a topic. Teaching is absolutely crucial, but students “hardly remember what you taught, but they will never forget how much you cared” (Castillo, “The Power in You: Teachers' Influence in Students' Lives”). It is much easier to have an open-mind as a teacher is because that “Teachers who experience views where they might potentially put others in danger, do need to be dealt with appropriately”(Fapuro, “How do teachers stay open-minded in the classroom”). Especially for teachers that teach cross-culturally they need to have experience and ready to deal with dangerous situations waiting for them throughout their teaching career, teachers that have an open-mindedness could “lead students to a deeper appreciation”(Hare, “Open-minded Inquiry”) and positive relationships.
