How can cars be created to be safer? The future is coming like an oncoming truck, in the form of self-driving cars. To design a safer car, we must first look at a vehicles shortcoming. Failure to keep in the proper lane is the leading cause of fatal crashes in the US, though failure to yield the right of way and reckless driving come in second (business insider). Operator errors such as these have dire consequences.
As research continues, these systems are becoming more and more affordable for the average driver. There are people who want to avoid self-driving cars for another reason, fear. The idea that the car would have more control of the vehicle that the driver scares people, however, self-driving cars have already proved to be twice as safe as human drivers- and getting safer all the time (cleantech). Self-driving features are improving road safety because the human component is minimized. Self-driving cars and improved technological advances are the key to safer roads and less accidents.
