Persuasive Essay On Homeless Veterans
How would you feel if you were walking down the street and saw a homeless veteran? Someone who served our country, but is now suffering? For their services, they deserve so much better than what they have right now. They suffered for our country and may have lost limbs for our country, yet why should they continue to suffer even when they should be honored and living a decent life? In Stanislaus County, there are countless veterans who are in need of assistance and compensation for their services, and a solution to this would be to start up an organization with a variety of programs to assist them. The organization would consist of several programs to help different aspects of problems that homeless veterans face? In Modesto alone, 11% of the homeless population are veterans. To begin, a program will be created to have volunteers scour the area around Stanislaus …show more content…
After renting out a building, the organization will be able to set up and hold all of their services there. Those willing to will be able to donate items, such as clothing or furniture, for the homeless veterans. Collecting furniture for future homes for homeless veterans would bring the program one step closer to its goal. Clothing would also provide homeless veterans some clean clothes or more layers for the winter. While the solution may seem much, with cooperation from everyone it will all become possible. Through the organization, it will be possible for homeless veterans to become self-sufficient once again. One by one they’ll be able to find homes and live as part of the community. Things do not change overnight, but with perseverance and effort, one by one it will gradually change. With each step taken, one less homeless veteran will be suffering on their

Guest speakers like Walther can put a real face on the issue of homeless vets and success stories fuel continued support and funding for charitable organizations dedicated to eliminating veteran homelessness. Arizona is a leader and provides a model program as recognized by the White House in addressing the homeless veteran and providing proven measurable results. Project H3 Vets is a nationally recognized program coordinated by the Arizona Coalition to End Homeless. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 2013 homeless assessment report to Congress, Arizona was among the states that saw the greatest decreases in the number of homeless veterans from 2012 to 2013. (Lee, Success in housing for homeless veterans in Phoenix touted, 2014) Project H3 Vets brought together local, state, community, social-service and business leaders for the past two years in an aggressive push to take the most vulnerable veterans off the streets. The program’s success is credited with these groups coordinated efforts in finding housing for the vets. The model is simple, get a roof over their heads first, and then address the issues (mental health, financial, substance abuse etc.) which contribute to their homelessness. This helps to reduce the Band-Aid effect of social rehab programs. Having a permanent roof over their head takes the…

Over 2 million Veterans are suffering from medical, physical, psychological, emotional, and social effects as the result of war. All of which are taking a tremendous toll on our veterans, their families, and our society. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) spends billions of dollars every year to help our Veterans and yet huge gaps in service and support remain. Inadequate medical care, a huge backlog of VA claims, limited treatment programs, and executive malfeasance plague the VA. These and other deficiencies in the “system” are putting our veterans at further risk. The rate of veteran suicide has reached epidemic proportions! Too many Veteran charities are taking advantage of donors and current laws governing the management and operations…

It is time to give back and make a difference in the lives of Veterans. There are many things about leaving the military for a degree that can be a scary experience. Three of the hardest situations that ever occurred to me is firstly, leaving the military to enter school, secondly doing nothing for someone in need and accepting a support system like other Veterans. As an outcome of these life lessons and not being able to compete for a job once out of the military, I understand the reason for higher education and helping out a Veteran in need.…
