Persuasive Essay On Gatorade Ads
Advertisers often use famous people to sponsor their products. Gatorade doesn’t falls short in this category for marketing. Some of their ads included Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning, Serena Williams, and Michael Jordan to name a few. There are many reasons why advertisers chose to do ads on models, celebrities, and athletes. For instance, adolescents look at these celebrities as role models, or ways to live out their dreams. In the 1997 Gatorade ad featuring an all-time great Michael Jordan; he is sitting down on the bench with a towel wrapped around his neck. Large drops of sweat contour around his face and on top of his head slowly, making its way down his face. Michael’s eyes are staring off to the side as if he’s focusing on the game. There’s a focused expression locked on Jordan’s face while he sits down on the bench thinking of his next move. The background is a neutral gray; Michael Jordan’s face is slightly darker than background. The designer used these two blends of gray setting off perfect mixtures of colors. This method allows spectators to become one with the scene, which is giving them a sense of being in the games environment. You can see the hard work formed on Michael’s face, he looks exhausted, yet anticipated to get back into the game. Gatorade ads mostly pertain to sports lovers; no matter what sport you are into you need to rehydrate your body. This ad appeals to the naked eye, but it leaves you with one question in mind. Although there’s a Gatorade symbol on the cup, can we honestly say what the all-star is drinking? For instance, as far as we know, it could be a cup of water in his hand. Designers often feed off of viewer’s negligence, and this particular picture may very well be one of those cases. This commercial features prominent athletes across a wide range of sports. This helps the viewer to link the greatness and accomplishments of the athletes to the fact that they drink Gatorade. Cultural context plays an important role in this ad. It is assumed that the viewer has a reasonably understanding of sports in the US. In order to understand certain components of the ad, for example the helmet catch by David Tyree in super bowl 42 or that Michael Jordan is jumping in the air because he had hit a game winner in the NBA finals against the Jazz.
