During my cross country season in my junior year, we had three captains, two of them for the boys and one for the girls. Throughout the entirety of the cross country season, the girls’ captain, Cecilia, demonstrated exemplary leadership for me. Whether it was during a race or a practice, she would always know what to say to our teammates to help have

I chose Mary Edwards Walker as my leader for this final project. I have always enjoyed reading a little bit of military history and I always look for stories about people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty or went against the grain. In my opinion, she really set the bar high for other women to follow, and I find her to be an exemplary leader and role model for other women in the business world.…

It has to take incredible courage to process a challenge like losing a limb in war. Stories abound from young men and women who stepped on a mine, or were ambushed, and their vehicle blown-up. For some, the moment is frozen in time and they cannot shed it. For others, they don't remember anything before waking up in the hospital without all their parts. To take in that realization, and then go on to perform as a star athlete is to this author, unimaginable. The incredible strength and perseverance to go on with life and then for some, to further demonstrate their zeal for life in their high level of participation in sports, is mind blowing.…

Participation in extracurricular activities such as football, lacrosse and swim team allowed me to learn the importance of sportsmanship; to win or lose with dignity. My passion for swimming inspired me to become a recreational swim team coach where I had the responsibility of teaching others and sharing the same rules of sportsmanship that helped to shape my own character. The long hours of both competing and coaching were challenging, but I quickly learned that the gratification one feels at excelling pales in comparison to the pride one feels at helping others to excel. I believe this is a leadership trait that will serve me well in my career within the USCG.…

John Wooden (NCAAB Hall of Fame coach) said, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” High school sports are usually beneficial to all parties involved, such as the athletes, parents and the schools that have the athletic programs. The athletes that play high school sports learn countless lessons on life, how to be healthy with exercise, and the extra incentive to keep up the grade to play these sports. Parents of high school athlete’s get an opportunity to watch their child succeed at something he or she loves. Parents can also benefit financially, when their child is good enough at a sport to get offered a scholarship which may pay for all of college. For a high school that has athletic programs the biggest pro is the amount of money to be made from things such as admissions, concessions stand sells, t-shirts…

    Cheer Captain Essay

One reason I feel that I would make a great choice for a captain, is that I would be dedicated to the squad, and would not give up when faced with any obstacle. To me, extra practices, time spent making bows, signs, decorations, cheers, organizing stunts, and many of the other things a captain is chosen to do, is not work, but an amazing privilege. These tasks would not bother or frustrate me, because as long as it would help the girls on my squad, I would be more than happy to do anything to help them or our coaches. I would take all challenges, whether they concern individuals, the squad, a cheer, or a stunt, in an effective way that would help the squad grow. My focus is not on me wanting to be one of the captains for the varsity cheer squad, but to help all of the cheer department and the student body to be more enthused with school spirit.…

When a child is involved in sports, he or she is of course subject to fail, but also has a very good chance of experiencing many wins. Without the right kind of coaching, these kids could end up thinking the wrong things not only about themselves, but about others as well. If they have coaches who don’t allow them to lose, and only expect wins, then everyone on the team could develop an arrogant attitude about life. There also is a chance of them having an issue with their ego. Coaches should not tell their team that winning is the only thing because it forces the them to think they can never lose therefore causing a change of attitude later on in life and also self consciousness.…

In Northern Michigan, the winter season can be long, cold and dreary; a few short winter months will turn into half a year. It is a season that can produce restlessness and depression in people of all ages. For many students, it would be beneficial to be able to participate in a school sport, rather than stay cooped up indoors all winter season. Many may not realize that East Jordan Middle High School does not offer many winter sports to students, offering only one to males and two to females. This leaves many students uninvolved in the winter, students who long to play sports all year round. With many options available such as ice hockey, skiing, and snowboarding, student athletes want more sports during the winter time. As it boosts school…
