Persuasive Essay On Cloning Animals
"A research team at Gyeongsang National University, headed by Kong Il-Keun, took skin cells from a Turkish Angora female cat and used a virus to insert the genetic instructions for making red fluorescent protein. Then they put the gene-altered nuclei into eggs for cloning. The cloned embryos were implanted back into the donor cat, which effectively became the surrogate mother for their own clones,” says (MSNBC.com.)
Along with cats, they have successfully administered the same glow in the dark experimented to mice, pigs, and goldfish to test the versatility of the ultraviolet marker. The success of the experiment shows that this ultraviolet marker will not only be able to track certain illnesses, otherwise killing silently, but hopefully one day be able to slow the extinction of certain wild species. The reason being is that the genetic variation of cats, mice, pigs and such have common traits, the ultraviolet maker used works best to reveal and track these traits. Therefore the possibilities of slowing the extinction of the certain species have the same or close to the same genetic traits. The glow in the dark cat is a stepping stone in modern science and medicine, opening new doors for research of human

Some may say that this is another way that animals are being treated unjustly, but these studies and experimentations will improve the longevity of a lot of animals that this generations grandchildren will have to read about in books. “ This astounding mistake will bring new heights to the study of prevention of endangered species, every step starts with a stumble. This protein is used as a highlighter, tracing the gene of choice, if this procedure is perfected it will bring forth a prevention of tragedy”

“Biomedicine” intends to increase quality of life via new research. One of the recent biomedical research is “Human Stem Cell” from which all 210 different kinds of tissue in the human body originate(the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, 94). Additionally, UNESCO states that separating some inner cell mass from the embryo at the blastocyst stage, they can be cultured to produce pluripotent stem cells, capable of developing into blood , muscle, or many other kinds of tissues and organs of the body (13). Thus, at first “Stem Cell” may sound hopeful for human life but…

Human Cloning is the creation of a genetically identical copy of an existing, or previously existing, human being or growing cloned tissue from that individual (Cloning Fact Sheet). Scientists remove the nucleus, which contains the genetic material, from an egg. The genetic material from an adult somatic cell is removed and placed in the egg. It now has a complete set of genes. The egg is placed in a petri dish to allow it to develop into an embryo, which is placed into a surrogate mother to continue to grow and develop into a baby (Genetic Science Learning Center). This technique is called nuclear transfer or nuclear transplantation because they transfer the nucleus from one cell to another (Kilner). Therapeutic cloning is a technique of human…

Cosmetics, scientific research, cleaning products, drug tests, and other research facilities have used animals as a way to evaluate their products or to discover possible scientific breakthroughs. Statistics show that more than 100 million animals die in the U.S. every year for experiments done by companies, the government, scientific facilities, or other institutions. Yet, the number is highly inaccurate since mice, rats, birds, and cold blooded animals are not believed to be animals by the Animal Welfare Act. The Animal Welfare Act is one of the only actions that are done to ensure that animals are protected from horrible lab conditions and painful experiments, yet they are barely reinforced. The previously mentioned animals make up more…

This process has also been lead to great strides in therapeutic cloning that can be used for medicinal purposes. One popular example is xenotransplantation, an animal to human organ transplant. Pigs are interesting subjects for xenotransplantation because of their physiological similarities to humans and their ready availability, in contrast to nonhuman primates (McCabe & McCabe 219). I we are able to mass clone organisms, like pigs, this will be beneficial in having a good supply of organs to cure human diseases and abnormalities. Reproductive cloning also gives people the opportunity to genetically create an identical donor. The SCNT procedure has the capability to genetically “resurrect” a lost beloved pet. Lastly, human cloning would provide lesbian couples or single women with the opportunity to have a child without using donor sperm (BioEthics…

In recent history, many people have become wary of the infamous genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which are commonly found in many foods and products, from corn to cotton. However, there are a series of documented dangers associated with GMOs and they have caused a divide between those who support GMOs and hope to reassure the consumer that GMO’s are safe, versus those who oppose GMOs and promote the removal of them from their favorite products. Despite strong arguments from both sides, there is extremely sufficient evidence to prove that GMO’s are nothing to be afraid of.…

What if when your mother saw you for the first time, she did not resemble you at all. If everyone in your family had one certain phenotype, and you came out with another. At the end of the day that's fine as long as it was done naturally. Is there an unnatural way of doing this? Indeed, this is a term we like to call designer babies. Usually during this process selected genes are added into an embryo of an unborn child outside the stomach of the mother. This is not yet legal, but the technology for it is upon us, but why would any parent want to do this? They might not fear the risks but they may have insecurities, and might know that their child will be born with an illness.…

With technology advancing everyday, there are starting to become more options in which to have a child. Designer babies are becoming an increasing choice for soon to be parents. With these designer babies, they have the ability to breed the best possible child which is called eugenic engineering. Some of the advantages of designer babies are identifying diseases to a child, choosing the sex of the child and even creating the physical appearance. The only thing standing in front of it is a question. Are creating designer babies ethical?…

If you had the chance to bring a loved one back into this world to stop your pain, would you? Cloning, the process of taking a cell from one organism, taking a donor womb cell from another organism of the same species (which will not affect the clone’s genetic identity), inserting the original cell in the donor cell, and placing the newly developed embryo inside a surrogate mother. There are those who think that cloning is a wonderful idea and that it is acceptable to make life, from and identical to that which already exists. One reason people protest the idea of cloning is because many are mystified as to how it could be used and what its purposes can be. I know that if it were your child, you would use every possible measure to keep them alive. The fact that we, as humans, might be able to figure out how to clone so that lives could be saved is extremely exciting and inspiring. “With so much enhancement in medical science, cloning is slowly but surely looking like it could be in our near future. However, is it really an option…

In an NBC news article, the author stated, “Scientists are one step closer to bringing a woolly mammoth back to life” (Ghose). Her statement proves that animal cloning is not a dream or idea anymore. It is now a reality and scientist from all around the world are utilizing animal cloning. Cloning in general has evolved its technology over the years and has become more advanced. In fact, author Jacqueline Langwith wrote an article on animal cloning, which started, “Animal cloning has entered the world of horse racing and other equestrian sports.” (Langwith). Many people are excited to clone their favorite or most successful horse. An example that Jacqueline cited was, “An Italian Haflinger foal named Prometea was the first cloned horse” (Langwith). However, cloning is a new type of science that is…

The lies everyone is getting told on how bad hog confinements are hurting the farmers. They put their lives into raising and taking care of theses hogs. Most people don’t really know what the inside of the buildings look like or how many hours the producers are with their pigs each day. Some get up at 5 A.M. and don’t get home till 10 P.M.. Most hog farmers families don’t see them unless it weekends or they go with them to work. They spend hours making sure the ones that are sick get taken care of. They even change every time they leave a building so that they don’t carry any of the germs to the next building. People might complain about the smell, but that’s how the farmer raises good crops from the manure. Farmers in general feed the world. Without them many people would be dying of starvation. The public’s attitude towards science is something that is least talked about in our society. Even in schools, teaching students about how scientists communicate with the public is given the least importance. As a result, I think most people who are involved in science disciplines are not sure how to respond when they come across this question.…

Imagine a world where we can have two of everything. Think about the possibilities. Imagine having two Ankits. Actually, I kinda want to take that back now. One Ankit is already too much. I might as well walk myself off the stage, but before that happens, I need to tell you a bit about genetic engineering and cloning. So what is genetic engineering and cloning? Well genetic engineering is the deliberate modification of the characteristic of an organism by manipulating its genetic material. While cloning is using this genetic material to produce an exact replica of the original organism. Both these processes have…
