Being born to a highly educated family in July 1995, I became familiar with the world of books and reading from the earliest days of my childhood. As I matured, my reading matured with me. Gradually, the children books turned into youth novels and eventually they gave their place to literary masterpieces. As time passed I realized that within these readings, a sense of curiosity has rooted in my personality that lead to being accepted in Iranian national Olympiad and attending one of the best schools in my country, Mofid2, where I was officially awarded as the “Bookworm of the school”. Mofid2 is well known by the distinctive method of teaching that is based more on experience and observation than just sticking

Like watching a Chinese movie without any subtitle, I had no idea what was going on around me during first month of studying in DNS. Getting used to loneliness and kind of depression feeling, I was about to be suspended for my awful performance but I knew that the night is darkest just before the dawn. The dawn was coming, I ended up being an A student with outstanding grades in that school and learned English in an unbelievable peace. Then I believed that if I believe, I can achieve whatever I want and I’m ready to overcome any obstacle in that case. Being sociable and friendly man, I never lose my faith and enthusiasm and even in the hardest crisis I will do my best to survive and …show more content…
I wanted to study in a filed which had the room for innovation and could also have far-reaching impact on people’s lives. So I choose to study Mechatronics. In Iran’s university acceptance national examinations (Konkoor), I was ranked in the top level, so I entered Sharif university of technology, the most prominent and the best engineering university in my country. I entered the university with great enthusiasm and an ambition to work in the junction of technology and mechatronic systems. But what I faced the first semesters was simple, routine courses. Throughout my life I haven’t learned too much about literature. It wasn’t until high school I thought highly of literature, in a sense I would have to be literate in order to succeed. As I proceed through life I realize how important literature is, not only to myself but to others. In “The Lonely Good Company of Books”, Richard Rodriguez explains how his parents did not read to him, and how he became literate. I could relate to Richard’s situation because I wasn’t read to much either. Though reading and writing is a necessity and students should learn literature at a young age, it can also be entertaining and create imagination. A growing problem in society is the inability to be literate at a young age.…

Thinking back to the summer when I first signed up for this class, I thought I would just be spending a semester reading my favorite childhood books to learn about the process of constructing a children’s book. I never would have thought that I would learn so much about how to analyze literature and choose books that would develop the cultural understanding of a child. Also, I didn’t realize how much I would have learned about my own experiences reading books. Everything I learned from this class I hope that I can apply to my everyday life.…

When I was eleven years old I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I had a hard time coping with the changes in my mood. Part of my healing process consisted of trying many different medications, therapies, and developing the desire to heal. During this time, friends I had for many years pushed me away, and although I felt alone and confused at times, I came out thriving. Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder thought to be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain that can result in extreme swings in mood—from manic highs to depressive lows. To be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, you must have experienced a high period (mania). Bipolar mania is described as an “extreme high,” or feeling unusually great. Most people with bipolar disorder when ill or when symptomatic experience more lows than highs. Unfortunately, the lows I experienced were so extreme that the friends I thought would be by my side through anything chose to follow other kids and use my disorder to bully me creating deeper depression. Initially, I felt stigmatized by my diagnosis. Most people I encountered either didn’t know what bipolar was or how to interact with someone suffering with the disorder. Teachers, peers, and family members had a hard time knowing what to say or how to act around me. I started to feel like I was no longer my own person but just one big disaster and my mood swings became even more extreme as a result. Eventually, I grew tired of feeling sorry for myself and began my quest for the right medication, vitamins, nutrition, psychological and spiritual health and wellbeing. I found my inner strength and courage. I put my energy into school, new friendships and family and started…

A friend recently told me “Don’t let the things you can’t control, control you”. I realized how much this small piece of advice relates to my life as an African American woman. I can’t control the fact that I don’t live with- or even know- my father. I can’t control how society perceives people of color. But I control what I do. I have discovered that I embody the ability to beat the odds given to a black, fatherless girl. I can be who I want to be with hard work and determination.…

For as long as I can remember literature has always played an important role in my life. As a young child, I can remember how excited I’d be at story time each night before bed. My interest in literature carried on throughout my school years...from kindergarten...when I was placed in the red bird group, which was the group of strongest readers….to high school…when I had the benefit of being taught by one of the best English teachers ever, Ms. Irena King. Now as an adult and professional, I am very appreciative of the literary foundation that was laid for me by my family and my teachers. I understand how important literacy is in everyday life.…
