Personal Statement: Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
So most people know how hard college athletes work, as in workouts, school, and playing their sport aggressive. They’re so busy doing these things, that they don’t have time to get a job, so how is it they get money to buy what they need? Start thinking about that, imagine how much money their parents have to give them so they can afford stuff. Lots of parents don’t mind but what about the families that don’t have that kind of money to be giving to their child, that puts a lot of unneeded stress on them.

Even if people think it’s not fair to just be giving them money like that, then the school could give them jobs when their free and that way they can say they earned the money that they have. It can be any simple job like it can be anything as simple as cleaning around there on athletic field or something. Or even have them do community service when they have time, if they don’t have time the coach could maybe give them a little time to do community service so they can. But i’m not a college athlete myself so I wonder what actual college athletes think about getting paid in college.

Like would they lose focus on there sport or stay with it, I feel like pro sports would like if they got paid because then they could see if there gonna busts. So if they are they won’t draft them for nothing since they already know there busts. Like for example Johnny Manziel was a stud during college, but once he went pro and got money he started doing dumb things and getting in trouble. So imagine if he would of got paid in college, they would’ve found out sooner possibly that he was a bust and it could of saved people millions of dollars. That’s why I think it would be a good idea to pay college

If colleges were to pay athletes there would be no fair way to distribute the money. Athletes perform their sport at different levels of ability and for various lengths of time. In addition, not every player is able to compete in a game. Problems would arise about the athlete not playing which would not allow for him/her to receive the money they deserve. The first issue about this problem is that some people believe that athletes should be paid based on an open market system. This idea of an open market system would allow for supply and demand to come into play. In addition, a school would be able to pay their scouted athlete based on the money that comes in because of their ability. However, The payment would vary depending on the market along with the deals that each athlete has with the school. The second issue is about the colleges because not every college can afford the players they want to recruit. In 2013 the NCAA had an investigation on the economic stability of Division 1 sport programs. This study showed that out of 288 Division 1 schools only 23 were running their programs in a profitable way. This means that only those 23 schools had the money to pay a college athlete. In our society, any business not profiting from anything is likely not hiring, and there is no idea…

Honestly, the the pros outweigh the cons on whether or not we should pay these college athletes, they spend all their time at the college and make money for them, they deserved to be payed something, time that could be spent with friends and family, and they’re instead spending their time in the gym or on the field. The amount of income would be based on the sport, gender, skill level, and school income. A list would be made by a committee of people to rank players from the top to bottom. They would rank the top players at that school and take a percentage of the school income from that sport. That way small D1 schools aren’t forced to go bankrupt. At a major D1 college the most they could get would be $10,000. This money would not be for them becoming rich. This money would go towards paying everyday things that we would buy. Almost like a bonus at a work company. Then the rest would get a small percentage of the total income. This is why I think we should pay college…

College players are just like professional players there’s really no difference now. College athletes bring in more money than the professionals.…

Classes. Game time. Stress. College athletes have a plentiful amount on their plate. Not knowing where money would come from adds more on top of school and sports. Paying athletes would eliminate stress. The NCAA refuses to pay athletes, but it’s not that they don’t have money. They have billions of dollars off of capitalizing, ticket sales, and team winnings. Should college athletes be given legal payment for their contribution to the universities? Many colleges around the United States have given thought to paying the athletes that play at their schools, especially in Division 1 programs. Collegiate athletes believe they are the source of income for their school, and request to obtain a part of what they produce. Although lawmakers, and experts conclude that paying college athletes would remove the amateurism from the game, college athletes should be paid because they are making money for the college, they are dedicating countless hours of hard work, also they would stay in school longer.…

Money gives food, money gives water, money gives life, but money is not given to collegiate football athletes. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA, made a billion dollars on the games during March Madness and even after the nets were cut and a champion was crowned not a single player was give any money. Collegiate football players, or any collegiate player for that matter, should be paid for each game based on how hard they work and how dedicated they are to their sport. Recently in the news, there was a report on the five University of Kentucky basketball players that decided to enter the NBA draft after only their freshmen season. Sure, they were told of the millions of dollars they could make in professional sports, but were they given the odds of them even reaching that big payday? From picks 5-10 in the draft, the success rate of the player becoming a league average starter is about 30%, then for the rest of the first round, picks 11-30 have around a 10% chance (Thread:15 year Basketball Analysis). But even after given the odds, most of the players will choose to enter the draft because if they continue to play and attend college, they could hurt themselves and lose out on all the money. But what happens when the athlete doesn’t make it? Then he becomes just another person in his early 20s without a college degree, looking for a job. But what if colleges were to offer the players an added incentive to stay, promise a type of salary so the athlete could make some extra money to help with his tuition cost, maintain a social life, and stay in school to finish his degree? Because even on a full scholarship, it does not cover the entire cost, the IRS taxes the scholarship leaving the player about $3,200-$3,500 short a year. This is why paying college athletes makes sense, because it will help keep young adults in school to finish their degrees and help them financially to achieve a better future. College athletes deserve to be paid because sports take up about 40 hours a week, which could translate to a full time job. So why should the players not get paid for doing his job? That is the question that is keeping most student-athletes from completing their education and chancing not only professional sports, but their futures as well.…

Over the past decades, what has continued to be one of the most debatable issues in the world of sports is whether or not college football players should get paid. My honest opinion is football that players should receive a certain proportion of money because of the service that college athletes provide to the institution they attend. In addition, they should be rewarded in a reasonable manner after putting their bodies out on the line, bringing in a tremendous amount of money, it will help with the football athletes to begin creating a sense of financial awareness, and finally it will attract more talented athletes.…

If college athletes were paid, they would not be robbed of any college experiences and many of them would stay the full four years and receive a degree which will help them in the future after they retire from the sport. It would also be fair that they are paid compensation for working as hard as professional athletes as well as the money and exposure they give college sports which is very similar to the money that professional leagues…
