Personal Statement: Ozark Mission Project
Ozark Mission Project (OMP) is an Arkansas based United Methodist mission camp. Each summer my father and I along with our church’s youth group travelled all over the state of Arkansas helping different families in need. OMP and volunteering was my father’s passion. I hope to carry out his love for mission work by continuing to help through OMP in some capacity.

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

“Slow down, future leaders of America at play,” a sign engrained in my memory as a result of the numerous volunteer trips I took to Mountain Mission School. Mountain Mission School (MMS) is a Christian boarding school and home to many children, who come from devastating backgrounds and poverty. Receiving no government funding, Mountain Mission School located in Grundy, Virginia operates solely on private donations and generous charities from churches all over America. In addition to a school, MMS played a key role in my life. Not only was MMS my home but also my church starting from second grade up until I graduated high school.…

My interest in the media world started back when I was in 7th grade. This spark first began in photography and has done nothing but grown since then. As I grew older this curiosity went from photography to television. The particular aspect of this field that draws my attention is the world of producing. Although I do not have any prior experience with producing, I know that an internship with WVUA 23 would be the perfect first step in one day becoming a producer. I learn very quickly and I will not stop something until it is completed in a proper manner. I am very eager to learn everything I can about producing and I know I will be able to do so through this internship. I enjoy working in a team-oriented setting where there is one common goal, as I am able to get along with all different types of people. I do not feel that any job is beneath me, and I am willing to do whatever possible in order to gain knowledge in…

Vivian Greene quotes, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” This is a quote that empowers me as an adult learner. In fact, it is the single most inspiring quote that helped me through my undergraduate studies. It reminds me that I can’t let the storms of life and my own insecurities cripple my dream of becoming an educator. By accepting to “dance in the rain”, I am embracing every obstacle along my educational journey, and I will succeed. In fall 2014, I accomplished the first stage of my dream by obtaining an undergraduate degree and now seek to complete the second stage by obtaining a master’s degree.…

I am a born leader and I would love to be able to bring my passion for leading and hard-work to Indiana University. Over the years I have moved a lot and been to four different schools throughout middle school and high school. At first it was a struggle to keep my grades up while trying to make friends and play sports, but I have since found that the key is all things in moderation. I play tennis and am a cheerleader for my high school and plan on continuing these sports while at IU. I love the spirit that revolves around the school sports and other events at Indiana University. I would be very involved with keeping the Indiana Hoosier traditions alive. I also plan to be involved with the Greek life at Indiana University. If I am given the opportunity to attend Indiana University, I would want to study business.…

When observing this big beautiful building, that is called the Salvation Army, that was placed in this community, I observed this building being more than just a community center, but an holistic approach to bring the community together and have observed them changed people’s lives. So there I was, in Creative Writing, working on my project, when suddenly my name was announced on the intercom above my head, “Fiona Bailey, please come to the front office, Fiona Bailey.” I became surprised for a moment, then I stood up, left my classroom, and started speed walking through the halls towards the office. As I walked through the office doors and asked the front office what they needed me for, I noticed something. There were a bunch of people there that I didn't recognize, and a woman with sparkling brown eyes and a blue dress said to me, “You have just been chosen to go to Mars, and you leave in four days.”I froze, my mouth went dry, and all I could say was, “What?!” The woman smiled and repeated what she just said. Then after a few moments I asked,”How was I chosen to go, and why?” Clearing her throat, she explained that all the…

It’s amazing that I am even writing this letter right now. I never knew that over these years and challenges I would be asking NASA to put their stamp on my future. I have always dreamed of working for NASA since I was little boy watching Armageddon. Years ago I met a captain in the United States Marine Corps who convinced me to go for my dreams of flight. She told me stories and I was deeply inspired knowing that she was that pilot that she spoke of. She made mention of the weapons, the planes, and a few of the technologies that she had come in contact with. From where I was standing at that moment I could not see any way that I could ever have a chance to do the things that she spoke of. Even though I was a little discouraged I had a fire inside of me. As a Marine myself I always had the feeling that there was nothing in existence that I could not do.…
