Personal Statement: I Am A Daughter By Erica Culp
Who Am I A Daughter, a sister, Talented, Smart, Driven, Family oriented, EMT Graduate, and most importantly a Mother of a terrible 2-year-old, is exactly who I am. Erica Culp is what I answer to, and I would love to share with you a little piece of my world semi-perfect. The two main people I blame on behalf of me being spoiled to this day, goes by the names of Jaqulin and Eric Culp. Navy radiation health tech would be my little sister Erielle Culp. Last, I have a baby brother who’s a starting basketball player in his 12th grade year. From Southwest community college, I’m a proud graduate. In year 2015 I received my Basic EMT degree, and now I am now finishing up my Allied Health degree. I experienced working, and riding with the Memphis fire department. Nevertheless, that’s when my ultimate goal to become a …show more content…
I’ve had that dream since I was running around with the big pink, make your head hurt, hair bows in my head. I dream big, because my head is too big to dream small, and that’s what I will always instill into my terrible 2-year old by the name of Asher Banks. I gave birth to him January 30th, 2014 and with the help of God, my family, his father, and his father’s family he has everything he could ever want and need. I love being a mother, even though its tiring, but I wouldn’t change anything about it. I believe in lessons, and many lessons can turn into blessings. To be honest, I’m taking this class to enhance my writing skills. I love to write and describe things dramatically, and make my readers feel like they’re in the moment. However, I have a lot of work to do when it comes to being more professional when it comes to writing. Writing is a great stress reliever, and I would love my stress reliever to be readable to my

HOMS Theme Essay Growing up, everyone expects it as this unbelievably spontaneous thing . In Sandra Cisneros book “The house on Mango Street” states that growing up can happen to people variously, in good and bad ways. In the pages 46- 57 there is a lot of growing up in many of the characters especially Esperanza. Esperanza gets her first job, during her break time she mingles with an oriental man; “ He grabs my face with both hands and kisses me hard on the mouth,”(55).…

As Alice McKelan exited the abandoned train station on October 23rd at 10:30 pm her blonde hair blew in her face, covering it like a blanket. Truth be told, it’s been a few years since the last time I walked into a writing extensive course like English 1302. The last time that I sat in front of a computer, and slaved away for hours trying to create the perfect paper was in 2011, during my first semester at Texas Tech. It was English 101, and people had that it’s a class that I should not take lightly, but of course I thought I knew better. Let’s just say that I figured out, I was not the greatest writer in the world after all, but high school definitely made me think I was. Before I entered into my first semester of college level English, it was not unordinary for me to write a paper that received applause from teachers all the way through senior year. I wrote essays on books, such as the “The Great Gatsby” to critically breaking apart poems. One assignment that I remember vividly was my critical summary over Robert Frost’s Poem, “The Road Less Traveled”. Alas, those easy days are gone. Most of my time now is spent typing up emails to staff and teachers. Since I have been enrolled at Texas Tech, I have worked in Texas Tech’s School of Law in the Administrative Office. Much my work is behind a screen typing up emails. It has taught me a lot, so I feel as though I’ve become pretty proficient when it comes to writing up formal messages or relaying information in a professional way. I believe that I have a decent amount of experience when it comes to my writing abilities, and hopefully that will continue to grow throughout my time in this class.…

This Essay is from her book of essays "High Tide in Tucson" in which Barbara Kingsolver shares her beliefs and her commitments - specifically, in family, community, the common good, cultural diversity, the world of children, and child rearing, which she lets in or rushes out to embrace all the wonders, beauties, threats, and angers that life and earth can offer. It also touches on many aspects and nuances that make life worth living; she is able to draw from her experiences to teach others the many life lessons that she has learned about child rearing. This excerpt from her book has a very personal tone; this closeness makes her story more realistic and believable. It is this sincerity and openness that makes the story warm. The author has been known as an advocate of nature. She devotes much respect to the other inhabitants of her world. Not only does she love Nature for the sake of life, but she is also is a mother fiercely trying protect the world's natural beauty for her daughter to relish. There is much life throughout this writing and she does a great job of portraying things as they are, without many of the biases that we find in society today. "Raising children is a patient alchemy," she declares; Most important are Kingsolver's reflections on her mission: because it aims to convey truths we know but can't feel, "good art is political, whether it means to be or not. The attention she brings to the natural world in her writing accomplishes what good writing should: it expands the universe and brings critical attention to things we might otherwise take for granted or never have even thought about. I've read a few of her essays and they are human and believable. (I.e. her feelings and thoughts about alternative families, feminism, sustainability and the environment) about; her 2-year-old daughter's acts of defiance, and occasionally frustration at the state of the world in which we live she does so with passion. The essay gives a warm tribute to our animal…

Wow I’ve learned so many things in this class. Mr. Huston has taught me many things not just about reading writing and speaking but about life. I love the way he lets us express ourselves in our journals each and everyday. Everyday when I walk into the classroom and get my journal I begin to write the quote of the day down and then to my bellwork. The quote of the day is a Quote that ties into the lesson. Our bellwork is writing about our last 23 hours. So basically you write what you have done since you left Mr. Huston's class the previous day. After bellwork Mr. Huston reads a short story out of the book Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. Once hes done we write in our journals what we learned about the short story. Then you can share it with the class. Normally you go up to the podium and read it the way you wrote it. Everyday when I look over I see the class motto and it reminds me that if I try my best and give all my effort to stride for perfection then I will grasp excellence in the process. Mr. Huston has made my first quarter…

I honestly did not expect to have to work hard in my writing class until the second day in Dr Harkins-Pierre’s class. On my first day, I had to construct a narrative essay based on the day I came in second place for a modeling competition. It consisted of a prewrite containing a cluster chart as well as an outline. I used the outline as a guide throughout my essay and successfully completed my narrative-at least I thought I did. On the second day, I received my paper and I was shocked by my grade. My seventy made me realize what I had to do. By the end of Dr PHP’s writing class, I expected to generate more ideas for my cluster charts, create proper outlines, and obtain an essay grade of an eighty-five or higher.…

I have attempted to do this before, but because I have never had a class that focused so much on writing, it has been difficult. I feel that this class will be a good one to practice those skills in, as I will have many writing opportunities as well as many people who will aid me. Next, I would like to improve my grammar and learn the more intricate details of grammar that I do not currently know. My last goal is to learn what wording and writing style to use when, such as who merits a more professional style and when my writing can be more…

I am sure you find many letters coming across your desk from parents who have taken the opportunity to ‘brag’ about their child. I know mine won’t be the best, but I hope that I do my daughter justice at the end. As most parents do, especially with their first child, they keep a folder of milestones their child has reached throughout their years; a folder filled with report cards, love letters, photos, school projects, etc. When I look back at one of Morgan’s Kindergarten project “All about Me”, I couldn’t agree more with the saying on the front of her book exclaiming, ”There is nobody in the world exactly like me!”. It’s exactly how I feel about Morgan.…

I’ve learned to use different words, phrases, or statements to use other times that will best suit my style of writing. When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…
