Personal Statement For Physiotherapy
My appeal in studying physiotherapy comes from my fascination in learning about the stages of rehabilitation after illness and injury. Physiotherapy would allow me to find myself in so many different situations each day, for example treating one patient with a strained gastrocnemius one minute to then treating a patient who has had a stroke and has immobility in their arm the next. This means that I would be faced with challenging situations where I would need to think on my feet to solve problems.
Another reason I am enthusiastic about this career choice is due to my dad's past injury where he had several sessions in physiotherapy to recover. I witnessed how the physiotherapy changed my dad's personality once he had recovered. Physiotherapy not only helps people physically affected by injury but also provides psychological support. Studying this course also appeals to me due to fact that physiotherapy is a very practical course to study and pursue as a career. I enjoy both theoretical learning as well as the practical based learning which is involved in studying this course.

I chose to do this because the course is very science based and I enjoy learning how the body works in relation to sport and exercise and also how sport and exercise effects the body. I also chose to study health and social care. This has given me the knowledge about different situations in health and social care settings such as hospitals and taught me how to deal with such situations. My favourite unit in health and social care was the equality, diversity and rights unit where I learnt the importance of treating people equally and understanding the differences in people beliefs and behaviours and how they should be catered for in health care services and

    Physical Therapist Career

    • 316 Words
    • 2 Pages

I have chosen the career path to be a Physical Therapist. A Physical Therapist’s job is very detailed and extremely important to the patient’s well-being. Some of their duties include examining patients as they come in to physical therapy, gathering a plan that is going to get them back on their feet, helping them regain strength, ease their pain, and preventing their disabilities from progressing. Two pros of this career, for me, would be examining patient’s data in order to come up with a plan to meet their needs and being able to give medical information to a patient or their family members. Examining a patient is a pro because it’s solely how the patient is going to get treatment. It’s essential to the process because you can’t help the…

In my life, I have been a patient too many times to say I am well familiar with different roles in health care. When I was fourteen I was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and after six months of treatment I decided I wanted to help others like the many clinicians that helped me. After I graduated high school I got a job at an outpatient physical therapy clinic and there my true passion began. This inspired me to apply and eventually get accepted into the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gateway Community College. The Physical Therapist Assistant program at Gateway will help me reach my goal of becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant by developing my character professionally, giving me the knowledge to help patients, and pass my board to receive my license as a Physical Therapist Assistant.…

I have chosen Occupational Therapy as will give the opportunity to learn within a small cohort which means there will be more support from my professors. It will also help me gain skills in problem solving and analysis, help me develop skills in teamwork and help me recognize the expanding types of work for occupational therapists. Also, I am interested in Occupational Therapy simply because I would love to make a profound difference in the lives of others if I pursue a career as an occupational therapist. Occupational therapy has a wide variety of options available. For example, I can choose to work in a variety of practice areas, work settings, and with people of all ages. I have chosen Computational Mathematics as one of my top two choices because I love maths. It has always been my favourite subject since I was a child. I think I will develop my passion for maths further by experimenting with computers. Also, I think Computational Mathematics will facilitate development of my skills through teamwork and individual projects.…

What if people lived healthier lives, practiced preventive medicine, and took precautions against illness and disease? My days in the physical therapy department often made me think about the prevention of injuries as well as the injuries themselves. I was already doubting my future career choice as a physical therapist. Although I loved the science of it and helping people, the lack of variety within the field and its limited options for growth bothered me. I needed a career that helped a large number of people, emphasized prevention and primary care rather than tertiary care, and would continually challenge and motivate me to improve. Knowing that I really did not want to pursue physical therapy as I had originally planned, my thoughts wandered to the area of public health, particularly health management.…

I always knew I wanted to have a career in helping individuals, I just never knew what it was. I grew up around a hospital because my mom is a doctor and I would always interact with her patients and got to hear how my mom helped their lives so positively. It was eye-opening to know that just one person could have such a direct impact on so many lives. With that in mind, I decided to start doing research on different healthcare fields. After a couple weeks, I came across occupational therapy. I do not know how to describe the feeling, but I was instantly drawn in to this career, and as I researched, the more intrigued I became. I loved the idea of being able to interact with patients and help aid in their recovery. All the patient stories I read talked about how occupational therapy changed their life and how they have such a positive view of therapy afterwards. I believe this is the right career path for me, because it is going to allow me to positively restore people’s lives. If I can directly help someone heal to the best of their ability after a life-altering situation or complication, I would get such an immense amount of satisfaction. I am a very unselfish person and always find it more rewarding to brighten someone else’s day. With occupational therapy, I hope to…

Through my experience shadowing physical therapists I have been able to see the true beauty of rehabilitating the human body and easing pain through movement. I know these accomplishments can be explained through science, but the body’s amazing ability to heal, along with the intricacy of the brain and its communication with the rest of the body have always seemed miraculous to me. I say that movement is a “simple” act, but when you get down to the basic science, it is absolutely incredible to see how much effort and design goes into each ‘simple’ motion. It could be argued that movement can enable the human body to heal and to grow more than many other forms of treatment. Movement is something that can not only enable a person to fully enjoy all that life has to offer, but it can also enable them to be a more healthy and active player in their own life. As a physical therapist, I hope that I will be able to better the lives of those around me, even in small ways. In my work, I will strive to inspire those who are hopeless, and to cheer on those who are making progress. I want to be an encourager, an advocate, and most importantly, I want to instill confidence in my patients. Whether it be to relieve a patient of chronic pain, or rehabilitate someone back to walking or playing their favorite sport, each milestone can be seen as a huge accomplishment. The human experience is one in which we all share, and when one person reaches their potential, society as a whole is improved. I believe that physical therapists can allow everyone to reach the point where they are able to take movement for granted, and I hope to one day be a part of giving that gift to…

The career path I have chosen to pursue is physical therapy. As I was growing up, physical therapy was not an option I would have considered but ever since junior year, my love for physical therapy has grown and pretty much eliminated all other career options. I had never fully understood what a physical therapist did until I became a patient. In the beginning of my junior year I had torn my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial cruciate ligament (MCL), and medial meniscus while playing goalkeeper in a soccer scrimmage. From this point on, I have been rehabbing my knees because of the multiple surgeries I have had over the past two years. The care and positive reinforcement I received during each appointment made me realize that this job was something I would love to do for the rest of my life. The love of sports really has helped me because a physical therapist is like a coach. They push you to your limit and believe in your ability to recover. The information necessary to finalize my decision is a description of the career itself, educational requirements, employment outlook, typical salary, and how the characteristics of mine would fit this career choice.…
