Personal Statement for Nursing
The Future of Nursing: Dynamically Impacting a Community The importance of maintaining ones health is a common perspective when viewing our aging population. It is said that a person has achieved “good health” when they are generally free from illness, injury, or pain. Yet, when we lack in meeting the criteria for “good health,” doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals are at the first line of defense for the rescue. It is also important that when face with discrepancy, we have good health care team. We need the doctor to diagnose the patient, and the nurse to be with patient to insure progressive recovery. Nurses are special; they are the voice for the patient at times when a patient needs to be heard; they are educators to the patient and the patient’s family; and last, but not least, they serve as the ultimate care giver. As an advocate for patients, I knew a career in nursing would be the profession that would allow me to thrive in an environment with motives of helping others. Nevertheless, I took the route of pursuing a biology degree to get a complete understanding of the human body. After intricate research, it is in my interest to apply my skills in this profession which will allow me to explore my compassion in health care. Through a career in nursing, I can be guaranteed that the knowledge I will be obtaining will be used to enhance some one's life. Nursing gives professionals the unique privilege of caring for a community of people at their most vulnerable moments. A nurse is required to be knowledgeable of each of their patient’s condition, and at the same time uniquely care for each individual for results of wellness. This profession appeals to me, because of the many roles a nurse is expected take on, and that makes choosing this profession rewarding. I believe that attending Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing will provide me with the challenging environment I will need to be the best nurse. This institution is praised

“Quack! Quack!” she exclaimed. “Yes it is bath time!” I replied as I gave my patient her nightly bath at my very first job as a nursing assistant for disabled adults. I remember initially being so excited to learn new procedures, medications and diseases. However, what I ultimately valued most during this experience was forming trusting, ongoing relationships with my patients (and learning that “Quack” meant bath!). The inimitable bond formed caring for these individuals motivated me to seek out a career in which I can provide meaningful and personalized care over time. There have been many occasions in my life that I have spent time in hospitals, nursing homes and by the side of a sick relative. When my grandfather was dying of cancer, he spent as much time as he could at home with his family by his side and when the time came, he was transferred to hospital, I was 14 at the time, still very young I knew it was not about how I was feeling, this pain was his and my grandmothers. I helped look after him for the two years he was diagnosed and it was during that time, I knew where my heart was and that was nursing. With my own experience of being in and out of hospital with two complicated pregnancies, I was in awe of the nurses and midwives who did everything they could to make me feel secure and safe, I was inspired and made an already certain career choice, even more evident.…
