Computer Science When I was kid, I was always interested in science and technology and science was probably my most favorite subject back in elementary school. I’ve always been deeply interested in computers and knowing how they work and it all started with my dad, introducing me to the computer systems at his work place that first sparked this interest. I can always remember the feeling of wanting to know just how computers worked, why they worked and what else they could do. Now a days, the world of computers is growing at an un-recordable rate everyday and it would astonishing to get a chance to be in that world and experience it for myself. Computers are the most influential tools in our lives, they are our present and future and it's hard to remember a day when I'm not really using the computer, since I do my school work on it, surf the internet or chat with friends and just the amount of things you can do on a computer is just unbelievable. My first big achievement, that cost me pretty much my whole wallet, was building my own personal computer which has been my all time dream because iv been using my old laptop which couldn't carry out the tasks I wanted it to do but when it did, it it was doing it at a very slow pace. Building the computer was frustrating at first, knowing which wire connect to which, but at the same time, it was a fun and interesting experience that was worth every penny in my pocket. I've gotten plenty awards at my school like the "Perfect
Attendance award" which proves that I have been going to school every day and on time and it also really helped getting my first job at a grocery store, at which I am currently working at. I've also gotten two "Student of the Month" awards for April and May, which shows that the teachers have enjoyed teaching me through out those two months more than anyone else in the class and

When I was eleven years old I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I had a hard time coping with the changes in my mood. Part of my healing process consisted of trying many different medications, therapies, and developing the desire to heal. During this time, friends I had for many years pushed me away, and although I felt alone and confused at times, I came out thriving. Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder thought to be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain that can result in extreme swings in mood—from manic highs to depressive lows. To be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, you must have experienced a high period (mania). Bipolar mania is described as an “extreme high,” or feeling unusually great. Most people with bipolar disorder when ill or when symptomatic experience more lows than highs. Unfortunately, the lows I experienced were so extreme that the friends I thought would be by my side through anything chose to follow other kids and use my disorder to bully me creating deeper depression. Initially, I felt stigmatized by my diagnosis. Most people I encountered either didn’t know what bipolar was or how to interact with someone suffering with the disorder. Teachers, peers, and family members had a hard time knowing what to say or how to act around me. I started to feel like I was no longer my own person but just one big disaster and my mood swings became even more extreme as a result. Eventually, I grew tired of feeling sorry for myself and began my quest for the right medication, vitamins, nutrition, psychological and spiritual health and wellbeing. I found my inner strength and courage. I put my energy into school, new friendships and family and started…

A friend recently told me “Don’t let the things you can’t control, control you”. I realized how much this small piece of advice relates to my life as an African American woman. I can’t control the fact that I don’t live with- or even know- my father. I can’t control how society perceives people of color. But I control what I do. I have discovered that I embody the ability to beat the odds given to a black, fatherless girl. I can be who I want to be with hard work and determination.…

There is a certain inevitability that technology will progress and become increasingly complex. We should, however, ensure that we are still in a position where we are able to control technology. It will be all too easy to suddenly discover that technology is controlling us. By then it might be too late I believe that it is very important to be suspicious of the benefits that computers will bring and to make sure that we never become totally dependent on a completely technological world.…
