If you are speaking to someone that isn’t familiar with the language you are using, it can make it harder for them to receive and understand the message that was sent. This can easily be avoided as you or other staff can either familiarise themselves with the languages they use or using someone else’s skills to get the message across (using a translator or an interpreter). However these can be expensive and hard to find so there is a service you can use over the phone which acts as a translator or an interpreter. Another way of overcoming a language barrier is to use phones/ computers. People can easily gain access to sites/ apps that allows them to translate your message into different languages. This can be a lot cheaper, easier and more convenient than hiring a translator/ interpreter to come in and assist.…

‘In America we are very fond of technology, and you barely see anybody or pick up the phone to call them,” Papadopol says. “In Europe, they like to talk face-to-face, and having conversations at a desk or in the hallway is very important. So we came up with an agreement to continue to have the discussions but to follow up with an e-mail. As a result, actions take place faster, and the content of the discussions is share with everyone on the team.”…

Particularly in global teams, collaboration is challenged by asynchronous work. In some cases this can be useful if someone can continue working on the tasks in another time zone. Coordinating collaboration across time zones requires special attention. Communication may get bogged down, and one may need to wait for answers until the following day.
