I feel that I am qualified to be an officer because I was a member, Vice-President, and then President of my high school’s volunteer club (Interact Club). I went to a small, Christian private school, and the club was student-lead with minimal help from our two faculty sponsors. The Interact Club was my greatest achievement in high school. When the realization that my final days of high school were vastly approaching, I began to ask myself what I would do with my life. From that point, the thoughts began to creep in of what things I could do to help better prepare myself for the future that was being pushed upon me. Seeing that I have known since a young age that I wanted to be an educator, my exploration of a summer job that would involve surrounding myself with children began. After endless hours of internet searching for the job that would best suit me, I discovered a Christian summer camp that was very much a place that would cease to leave my mind for the next few days. Carnegie Mellon is a remarkable school and the amount that the university invests in the students at the school is unbelievable. I visited the school on April 1 and I just loved the campus. It felt like home as I arrived and my whole fear of not liking the school was lifted from my shoulders. I first began looking at colleges my freshman year of high school. First, I looked up schools I thought seemed interesting and had majors I thought I may want to develop and pursue a career in. My list started off with about 20 schools and by sophomore year I would need to break it down to about 10. I began to visit these schools 1 by 1 and saw the type of programs they had to offer. Every morning I use to help the team leader lay things on each table for example pens and paper or counting blocks. After the children had their lunch then we would have circle time where the children sat around in a circle and had to sing songs. Coming into my first quarter of college I did not know what to really expect. I was very nervous and thought to myself if I could actually be successful in college. As the quarter went on, yes it was difficult at times, but I managed to work hard and get through everything. I have had good experiences and I have had bad experiences. I have had a mixture of these experiences throughout my classes. Academically I did a relatively good job.
