Personal Narrative: We Are All Patriots
My father and I stand in our family room wearing matching Tom Brady jerseys. We shake with anticipation. It looks like the Seahawks are about to score a touchdown and pull ahead of the Patriots in the last few minutes of the super bowl. All hope seems lost until Malcolm Butler makes his legendary interception and ensures us a superbowl victory. My family exults. The Patriots have once again claimed another. We have spent the past months waiting and watching, hoping and praying. The Super Bowl wasn’t just won for the men on the team, it was won for all of New England. As Robert Kraft says, “we are all Patriots.”
Football has a communal quality. My parents and often get in little squabbles and we don’t always see eye to eye but once a week in

Nothing says football to me like, the smell of my mom's famous hot wings frying or dressing up in purple and gold to cheer on my beloved Minnesota Vikings. I have learned through my years of cheering for the team, that being a Vikings fan means putting up with those “Cheese-heads” from the state next door. I believe the Vikings vs. Packers rivalry is one of the greatest in the NFL. I've found this to be true not only through my family traditions, but also from witnessing player and fan behaviors, and simply the geographic placement of these two bordering states on the map.…

“We can’t all be Washingtons, but we can all be patriots.” Writer Charles F. Browne says this, meaning that we can’t all be perfect but we can be patriotic in our own ways. We can’t help the nation as much as Washington did but we can still help the government as much as possible. To be an American is to pursue unique and individual ideas and freedoms to benefit the central government. This includes the rights that the Founding fathers created. These rights are shown with the rejection of tyrants, the right to vote, and the first amendment.…

If I had harnessed the ability to travel through time, I would choose to experience 1960’s Washington D.C.. The city was struck with such large amounts of heartbreak, but at the same time, many people had more courage than they’ve ever had. I would spend the first couple of hours exploring the riots on the roads, the segregation present in the shops, and just how people felt in this time.…

My political viewpoint has changed dramatically since I was first introduced to politics. I come from a democratic family, where it is strongly believed that it is the government’s responsibility to care for all people and that the government knows what is best for all people. Every voting season, my parents vote for a democratic president and explain to me the reasoning behind their decision. It was not until I was in the tenth grade that I realized that I did not hold the same political beliefs as my parents. After taking several political quizzes and extensively researching the bevy of political parties, I now know that I am an independent. What is an independent? An independent is an individual politician not affiliated to any political…

When one reads this part, “be anyone for one single day”, from the prompt, I can safely assume most people would think of well known people such as George Washington or Thomas Jefferson. Famous people. However, as for me, my thoughts were the complete opposite. The American Revolution was occurring, so there is no time to be famous. I want to fight, I want liberation. I want to be separated from the oppressive Parliament. Who or what I want to do? I want to fight for freedom. In all my experiences, I’ve encountered so many injustices done to other people and myself. I don’t want to be a bystander. There is a strong desire to participate in this war so I can change the world and make it a better place. There shall be no more injustices, no more…

Leaving my family was the hardest thing I could do. I knew it was for a good cause, but after the deaths and such I had to make a decision. Finally I decided not to reenlist due to the people dying all around me, the horrible conditions, and last of all the small huts. Though I thought it would be a fun journey, I had to realize what was actually going on. Hours and hours of deciding on to reenlist or not, I believe I made the right choice.…

The night of April, 18, 1775 I was abruptly woken up by some random man running through Boston yelling “The British are coming, the British are coming!” I was not very happy of getting less than a hour of sleep. This weird man came through around 10:30 PM and woke everyone in the town from there sleep. At first when I heard him say that phase I did not know what he meant by it. I then gathered with my neighbors outside and was told if I wanted to fight the British I had to sign my name on the books in the city hall later that evening. When I went to that meeting later that night they told me to go home get a pound of bread a flask of water and my gun, and to also get a little rest and when the drums sound go stand on the green. So I went home and rested a little and then said my goodbyes to little Johnny and Benjamin. Until we all heard the drums. I then went with my…

It is another dreary night at Valley Forge. As I crawl into my unbearable smoky hut, doubt, fear, and cold death are roaming the walls of my hut. In the winter of 1777, Washington’s Continental army suffered terrible conditions at Valley Forge. Many soldiers died from sickness and severe cold weather. Others deserted the camp. Most soldiers received the chance of re-enlisting or not re-enlisting. This decision was one of the hardest decisions of their life. I have decided to re-enlist because the reason we fight in this war is for freedom, there is still hope within us, and pride and relief await after the war.…
