In order to be effective, a leader must have an unwavering passion for their projects. I have found through my time with The Pink Bowz, the more excited I become about something, the more excited everyone else becomes. However, when a leader loses enthusiasm for what they are doing, they set a bad example for their peers. I have personally failed as a leader before because I developed apathy towards a project, and my teammates began to adopt the same attitude.
In the spring of 2016, I was the president of The Pink Bowz club when it was only twelve members. The club had proposed several projects, but most notably, a kickball tournament. I received some interest throughout the community, so I slowly began the planning process. Although I was

I remember that it hurt. It was if someone struck all the air out of my lungs. I tried with all of my might to breathe but it seemed as if I were incapable.I looked for something, anything to hold onto for support. Everyone watched in horror as I sank to the ground and the sob that was stuck in my throat escaped. I was feeling emotions I never felt before, that I didn’t know existed. The two Marines in Dress Blues who stood at attention looked on, their faces mostly emotionless, except their eyes which were filled with pity as they said they were sorry for my loss. My best friend rushed over the office to wrap her arms around my shoulders. The only way she could hold me seeing as I was on my knees crying into my hands. I could feel her sympathy,…

An effective leader doesn’t have all the answers but manages to make good decisions most of the time based on input from others. Listening to the team, understanding their thought processes and taking time to explore possibilities is important. Show your team that you are open to their ideas, empower them to take lead roles and ownership of projects, let them understand that it’s ok to make a mistake and help them learn from it. It’s the only way you will be able to move together as a team and be efficient. Listen , learn, understand.…

The Boys and Girls Club of America helps thousands of Americans each year as a daycare, escape from home, way to meet new friends or to eat a sustainable meal that they wouldn’t be able to get at home. Another way that the Boys and Girls Club benefits kids is by having organized sports where the players can develop competitiveness, teamwork and become coachable. As someone who volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club I am able to experience all of the good that goes on both within and outside of business hours. As I wrap up my high school career and go on to the next stage in my life I often find myself looking back at not only those who helped shaped me into the person I am today but also the extracurricular activities I participated in. The Boys and Girls Club is one thing that continually pops into my head with the activities I partook in as well as the children and adults alike, without these experiences I would not have devolved my love for basketball, been so willing to give back to the community, or have been showed the do’s and don’ts of parenting.…

As a leader there are many times you are faced with getting people to buy into what you are selling. To get people to buy into your vision, you must have a well-defined vision and believe in it with your entire being. I have found myself in many situations where I had to convince people that my vision could become reality and that through our efforts a difference could be made. While in high school, I was captain of my cheer team and I felt that this visible platform should be used for a greater good than just cheering on our team.…

We need to know the importance of being a leader by example. If someone wants to be a real leader, that person has to show this characteristic. Bring people up in work areas, if someone's having a hard time encourage them, affect them in a positive way. I mean think Adolf Hitler had the leader traits, but he used those skills for negative doings. Do not just speak like a positive example, but also be a positive example by showing it, do the right thing when nobody's watching, when with friends do not let them trick anyone into…

Motivation is achieved through praise. If students are complimented on their effort, they will often perform higher and have a higher sense of motivation. However, blind praise yields spoiled results. I will expect excellence out of my peers. I will make sure to voice those expectations, and help my peers set reasonable short-term goals to accomplish the exellence we strive for as a band. Enthusiasm is another important factor in leadership. I have noticed that our leadership this past year was very enthusiastic and excited about upcoming events and competitions. This roused the other students in a way that motivated…

To be an effective leader, I believe you must be able to put yourself in a position that sets you up for success and be able to motivate others to work towards a common goal. To do this, it is important to use the strengths that you have a high propensity to do well. You must also learn from past experiences of success and apply what worked well and avoid those that did not. Just as a kitten born in a stove oven does not make it a biscuit, a child born of a leader does not make him a leader. We must learn to lead, and to do so requires us to develop a leadership style that encourages success.…
