I've never liked the Lottery. I never enjoyed such useless death especially after my mom ,yet there is nothing that I can do. The elders believe we need to have it ,but other villages had already gave up on this stupid tradition. I just wish our village would do the same. Mr. Summers with the black faded wooden box has become a fear of mine. I have been having nightmares ,and it is hard to not get anxiety around him. All the heads of the households have to pick for their families ,and since I don't have one I just pick for myself. Mr. Summers goes through his list and starts calling people's names. Summers announced it was time for us to open are slips. Everyone stayed still for what seemed like forever. Then Mr. Hutchinson opened his paper and soon others followed. As I heard everyone exhaling in relief that they didn't get called I began to become nervous. And without a thought in the world I just opened it. And there I saw it. The black dot made from the pencil from the coal company. After the sighs of relief died down people began to wonder who got the paper. I tried to regain my composure ,but before I could hide the slip Mr. Graves looked over me. He called out to everyone that I had gotten it. Everyone began to stare at me.
