Personal Narrative: The Impact Of Golf On My Life
Golf has impacted my life greatly; more than I had expected. When I first joined golf I was the only girl on the team. In fact, I was the first girl to ever play golf for Holgate. When I decided that I wanted to join the team, I, of course asked other girls to join, in fear of being the only girl on an all guy's team. Even though my persuasion failed, I was determined in playing golf. Looking back, I am glad that I did not let my fear stop me from joining this sport that I love. I became so fond of my team that I was lucky to be apart of it.
Golf has taught me so many valuable lessons. For starters, golf is a mentally challenging sport. Coming into a sport with no experience and very little confidence, led to a very rough start. However,

It was a beautiful summer day. Not a cloud in the sky and the sun beating down on anyone under it. It was a perfect day to call over my friends and have an adventure or play ultimate Frisbee like we did almost any day. Today, my neighbor and I, Paul, decided to change things up for a change. We decided to use my homemade go-kart on the abandoned golf course, Blue Heron, behind my house. We grabbed our helmets and took brushed the dust off the go-kart from years sitting in my basement garage for years and were on our way to the long steep hills that Blue Heron had to offer.…

In baseball there is an enigma of a pitch called the knuckle ball, which is very difficult for batters to hit because the the ball moves unpredictably in different directions. Often time it feels like life is like trying to hit a home-run off a knuckle ball. When this happens, When life throws us something unexpected we must learn to adapt and respond appropriately.. When I first came to Lake Highland I tried out for the girl’s golf team, but I was not experienced or skilled enough to make it on. This was a devastating moment for me, but I realized that I needed to try harder and work harder to make it on the team the next year. I became much more skilled and was able to make the team with ease. What the failure told me was that if I got knocked down then I would have to work hard to get back up. This lesson was very crucial to me my junior year of high school. During the golf season I severely injured my wrist. This injury put me out of the game for six months. I gained arthritis in my wrist, but I remembered what happened to me in seventh grade and worked hard to regain my skills. I made the team the…

I couldn't be more excited to finally play on a girls golf team starting this next Monday! After having three concussions ending my soccer career, my dad came to me and suggested I join the golf team. As a freshman, I joined the boys team at Slinger High School. Most of the guys accepted the idea of a girl playing with them. Many helped me out and treated me like any other teammate, which definitely calmed my nerves for the first few weeks. I competed in almost all the matches. The first few matches were very scary because I got many strange looks from other teams. My teammates were always there for me though. I became so comfortable and by the end of the season I made many friends and accomplished a lot as an individual. I found myself in…

From the day I could walk, I was involved in sports. From playing tee-ball in the backyard with my dad when I was three, to trying three new sports as a senior, athletics have been an integral part of my life. In my elementary school days, I tried every sport that was offered through the Jefferson Parks and Recreation. This included baseball, football, wrestling, karate, soccer, and tennis. Through middle school, I dropped several of these sports to focus on my two favorite sports, baseball and wrestling. Training for these two sports never ended and most of my time was spent either on a baseball field or on a wrestling mat. Entering my high school years, baseball and wrestling were the only sports I competed in. By my sophomore year, I was…

The epitome of peacefulness and serenity is different to every human who has ever walked the face of the earth. Some might view peacefulness as laying on a beach, sun shining, and listening to the waves roll in. Others may view peacefulness as a quiet day with no worries and nowhere to be. Others still may think of peacefulness as a casual stroll through a park or garden. A day on the golf course combines all of these fantasies into one fantastic day that I look forward to on a daily basis. A day on the golf course always comes with a care-free feeling while strolling up and down hills and through trees, and most golfers also get to spend some time in the sand. Why this is so peaceful is a mystery to most. Who would want to chase a little…

As a lifelong golfer, I ‘ve learned the value of owning my shortcomings. Sure, I can point fingers at a wind gust or a sparrow chirping in my backswing, but I won’t achieve golf nirvana until I accept bad shots and bad breaks. I was reminded of this right after the U.S. Open, when I discoved how I failed to drain that crucial four footer on the 72nd hole.…

Golf is a growing game among kids my age and younger. You may think golf is "an easy ride to college", "an easy sport to pick up", but the competition is stiffer than it has ever been. Especially living in California, the number one ranked state with the best junior golfers in the nation and the world. If I was a sport, I would be volleyball. I think I would be volleyball because volleyball is a sport where there are players that are on the front line, and there are players at the back that volley and help the offensive players spike and earn points. I think my personality varies between a front line player; outgoing and confident, and a defense zone player; supportive and subdued. I also think I would be volleyball because you can’t play volleyball alone; you need a team. I rely on family and friends as my team, so I can succeed. In volleyball, there are also many rallies in which the ball crosses each side of the net multiple times. I think this represents not only my tendency to be indecisive, but also my search for perfect opportunities.…

I was a 10 year old sports junky and I would later realize, I wish I wasn’t. Even though it was raining cats and dogs, I decided to go blow off some steam and hit a few golf balls. The sopping grass, The rain pouring, and the slight fog didn’t stop me. I placed the golf ball on the tee and held the club’s old, worn out grip. I attempted to smack it so hard I missed completely, and pounded the ground with the face of my club and created a huge divot. I continued struggling, until finally I gave it a rest. Because I was sucking, I then stood and watched the sun start to emerge over the clouds, I peered up and noticed a rainbow. A light drizzle continued and I carried on minding my own business. Now that it was a nicer out, it made me cool down a…
