Personal Narrative: The A Team
“The A Team” a song written by Ed Sheeran in 2011 after he visited a homeless shelter and heard a story from one female, she was a prostitute addicted to cocaine and had become homeless. Her story inspired him to write the song and quickly became top ten songs in numerous countries and nominated for the Grammy’s “Song of the Year” in 2012. I recalled listening to the song when I was in eighth grade, and one verse had a great impact on me. “The worse things in life come free to us” hit me like a truck and tears flowed out of my eyes. Prior to the first encounter of the song, I had experience dramatic changes in my life. My best friend had moved back to Brazil, I transferred schools, and the economy was still affecting my family. Unfortunately for me I was coping with these circumstances at the age of 12. Transferring and losing my best friend was difficult but then my parents had lost our house and our lifestyle was modified. Peachtree Charter Middle School was the worst decision my parents had made for me. I was bullied when I had transferred and I had no friends. The one friend I had at Peachtree was Allison, and she had transferred into a different school. I spent most of my middle school experience trying to survive the …show more content…
As an insecure middle schooler I never felt like someone could understand me. Listening to Ed Sheeran singing the exact words I felt was a game changer. It reminded me that if I wanted a better situation than I was in, I needed to change my attitude towards my problems. Those words helped me melt the snow that was causing the snowball effect. Changing my attitude has made me appreciate the situations I am in instead of dreading them. Without the complications of life we can’t grow and learn causing us to be machines and not humans. “The worse things in life come free to us” thankfully because then we would have no journeys, stories, or a purpose to

Now this is where I`m supposed to write “all about me”. This is where I become lost. I mean, come on. I wouldn`t know where to start. “Countries are starving because of the World Trade Organization or the World Bank or from mining the hell out of the world. My state is completely infested with mining companies that are basically digging holes everywhere and are disenfranchising people in the process. When I look at all this stuff, it’s quite overwhelming. As a citizen of the world, it doesn’t feel natural, and it doesn’t feel right. The song is an observation of those things and trying to find some redemption in it. It’s so overwhelming to be completely surrounded by that feeling all the time; I had to find some redemption and to take back the definition of revolution.” – John Butler.…

Everyone in the world can testify to their trials and tribulations but they are exactly what morphs and shapes us into who we are. The weak succumb to the poison and destroy themselves, but the strong understand eventually that where you come from and what you have been through does not define you. It is an individual choice you make to lay down and die or stand up and make something of yourself. Kari Patterson understood that. Since she was a little girl, she represented hope for a better tomorrow. Continuous negative events in her life was like putting black food coloring in hydrogen peroxide. Tina Mabry’s one solid message to the world is, “there are always options when you think there are…

"There are so many people that struggle silently; whether they have depression, an eating disorder, alcoholism, an addiction...or anything else that stops someone from truly living their lives," Rose says, "My ultimate goal for the band and the album is to connect with people that are hurting like Tim and I were. If someone hears one of our songs and can relate it to something they've experienced to the point where they don't feel so misunderstood, then we've succeeded in my…

But I’m not the only one falling apart here… You’d be lying if you said you weren’t. And us together, were falling apart. We only have eachother to trust however you no longer have trust in me. This path we have chosen.. Its not like we imanged it to me. We loathed power, status and respect. We’ve received betrayal and hatred. All that’s left is the screams of a mother and her children, that wont leave my head. I have sunk into an empty abyss and cannot find my way out . This depression has taken me as a hostage and no one can rescue me, no matter how hard they try. I don’t see a light at the end of this tunnel. I can only hope that in death I will find peace. Life here is just no longer bearable. I’m exhausted; this depression has become so insidious that I can no longer see my future.…

“Every day every hour. Turn the pain into power.” Danny O’Donoghue, a vocalist member of the band The Script, sings in “Superheroes” about the strength that comes with overcoming the struggles presented in life; similarly this message can be seen in Ishmael Beah’s recount of the challenges he faced as a victim of war, A Long Way Gone. To me, the song is a reminder of how difficulties can build someone into a stronger person. Throughout the song, all the lyrics hint that without suffer and perseverance, success cannot be achieved. Similarly, in Beah’s story, he becomes a teenager with more fortitude only after breaking down and experiencing immense grief and pain both physically and mentally. From listening to and analyzing “Superheroes” and reading A Long Way Gone, I learn that only after breaking down and…

In Heartbreak Dreamer, Anis expresses diversity by dedicating the song to a wide variety of people through lyrics such as, "To the men who have to hold down three jobs simply to hold up their children... For the kid who is always late to class and forgets the combination to his lockers... For the ones who are told to speak only when you are spoken to, and then they're never spoken to." These verses show the wide variety of unique problems, whether large or small, faced by individuals every day. America increasingly grows in diversity as people travel…

I hated reading, but in the fourth grade my teacher mislead my parents telling them I was illiterate because I refused to read their stupid book about a velveteen rabbit. I didn’t like reading and refused to do any read in class or for a teacher. After a meeting at the school consisting of my teacher, my parents, and my favorite principal; my mother took me to the school library to get any book I wanted. It took me thirty min. to find a book that I personally wanted to read the first book in The Last Dragon Chronicles, The Fire Within. It had a green dragon’s eye with a scalene shape to it and a tear rolling down its face with a small purple flame imprisoned within as it fell, as if it was flickering the last time. The adventure and mystery hooked me, and made me who I am now.…

I was in the schools enormous gym. We were getting put into teams and I really wanted to get put into a group with one of my close friends. I was almost as excited as if it was going to be christmas, because I was waiting for this unit for a while. The teacher told us to get into straight lines like a ruler would make. I was imagining playing this sport with my friend and showing him cool things in it like, shooting it from half court or dunking. The teacher was spitting us our groups and I heard my name first and got chills crawling up my spine like a cold frigid winter breeze because I was so excited and nervous. Then boom, my teacher called two other people's names that I didn't even know. I was disappointed and angry like if I got nothing for christmas. Then I let out a giant sigh like a dinosaur loud enough to be heard for miles away.…

When I was younger I was in the Palomino Horse Breeders of America Association. I was on the National Youth Board for seven years, my last year I was the National Youth President. Throughout my years on the board I learned a lot about team work, especially during my year as President. The main thing that I learned about team work is that no one on the board knew what it was. I was not too surprised because everyone in the horse industry is so competitive and high strung that they don’t trust anyone else to do their work or to make good decisions. For example, I had two youth advisors who made my life, during my presidency, extremely difficult. As advisor they were only allowed to overlook our decisions to make sure we stayed on topic and were…
