One glowing night after a very fun activity night, my best friend Calen and I thought it would be thrilling to try a standing backflip on the ground because we can do a standing backflip on my trampoline very easily, with a soft mattress of course, So we practiced our standing backflip on our trampoline that night because it was getting a little too dark to spot where the ground was.

I was playing dodge ball. Usually I'm not very good at it, but one day, I was the last one on the court, and someone threw the ball at me. At that moment, I felt like the end was near. I heard mixed yells from my friends; yells of "Run" and "Catch it!" I almost felt the ball hitting my face as it was coming toward me! I closed my eyes! I heard a loud bang, not unlike a ball hitting someone. First, there was silence, then yells and cheers! I didnt't feel any pain. I realised that since I hadn't felt any pain, I had probably died. Well, I lived a good life. It had seemed that my death had been inevidable to me. I opened my eyes and looked down, expecting to see my body, lying on the floor. but it wasn't. 'That's strange', I thougt, I looked at…

On a sunny Saturday morning when I was 5 years old, my sister and I were playing a game where we would push ourselves off of our bed like it was a slide. Our room was a pigsty; it looked as if a tornado had passed through. The mess from our closet met up with the end of our bed. I had just slid down the bed feet first into the mess when it happened.…

We had been playing kickball for about five minutes then finally switched sides so I could kick. With the aroma of fresh cut grass and a crispness to the air, with the sun setting on that evening in the fall, I readied myself. As the ball rolled out of my sister’s hand and headed my way, I cocked back my leg and pooched it up in the air toward the left side of my yard. That is when I first realised that I had miscalculated my kick, the ball was gliding over the fence and…

My partner of eleven years is my greatest cheerleader. When I feel overwhelmed and depressed she gives me encouragement to conquer every challenge I’m faced with. In addition to my partner, another influential person in my life is a co-worker and friend. She fills the maternal role that is absent in my life, by giving me advice, different perspectives, and confidence. My career plays a vital role in my resilience, it gives me cause to wake up and achieve greatness each day. The children I work with inspire me to be a better educator, nurturer, and caregiver. When I am feeling depressed nothing lifts my spirits speedier, than my students. I believe it is a gift to have the availability to focus on constructing children’s strengths, rather than…

I have been running since I started Modified Track and Field in the seventh grade. Running has been a part of my life ever since then. When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. I participated in Soccer from sixth grade till ninth grade, because come tenth grade I realized I had a strong passion for running,…

Most people say cheerleading is not a sport, but to me it is. It all began when I was four years old and my mom signed me up to cheer for the Harrisburg Packers. I was nervous at first, but then it turned out to be a lot of fun. Everyone on the team was tall except for me and one other girl. Her name was Tatum. The first thing I thought was that I was going to get picked on by all the other girls because I was so little and shy, but it turned out to be totally different.…

Tumbling is one of the things I hate the most. Some people might think that flipping your own body over to do flips is really cool and exhilarating to do. I, on the other hand, hate tumbling. I was in sports for my whole life, cheerleading specifically. I was always with my team, staying after school, and going to games. After I started high school though things changed cheer became a lot less about your skill level and a lot more about who you knew and how well you could suck up to the coach. The coach of the cheer team hated me she would set me aside from all the other girls and constantly poke fun at me and pick out my short comings. I would go home from practice everyday and cry to my mom. I would have horrible anxiety about going to practice and pretty soon everything that happened at cheer became my fault. I knew I was a pretty good cheerleader and constantly tried my hardest. For some reason it still wasn’t good enough. I…
