Personal Narrative: Spring Break In High School
“Hey lets all go to Florida together for spring break, it’s our senior year and we have to end it with something fun!”, Phu whispers in biology class. Parker, Ethan, Hunter, John, and Toby all turned to me as if they already agreed with Phu. All I could think about was how much trouble me and boys would get me into. Sounded fun anyways. “Alright, we’ll head out friday after we get out of school”, I said. Phu looked at me and said “It’s a wrap!”. The only issue is convincing my parents to let me go with no parents supervision.
I wasn't really sure how to bring it up to my parents that I wanted to go to Florida for four days without any parents. My parents have never trusted me enough to let me go out of the state by myself let alone to Florida on spring break. I spent days of doing extra around the house to get my parents to notice thinking maybe it would help my chances of going. The Wednesday before we got out for spring break my parents handed me eight hundred dollars and told me to be safe and enjoy myself. That friday after school we all met up in the parking lot of our school and loaded up Phu’s four runner with all of our belongings and headed south to Destin, Florida. We stopped in Memphis, Tennessee to pick up Jared (aka Ernie). As soon as we pulled into Destin we headed straight to our

We invited over some of the girls we met on the beach to dinner. We decided to have a little get together with everyone on our last night. After dinner, we got all of our stuff together and got the four runner loaded up for the morning. The next day we got up and headed home. We stopped in Memphis again and spent the night at Jared’s house. I feel like this was the best night of the whole trip because none of us got in trouble and had a home cooked meal. Looking back the trip was worth the trouble I got in then I got home. I have already decided that I am going back this

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

This summer I went Princess Anne, Maryland for a six-week to a science bridge program and this was my first time ever being away from my parents and this was difficult because I depend so much on my parents and being that they were not there was going to be challenging. When I applied for the program I had high expectations that it would be a great experience for me and that I would learn new information about my major and also have the chance to meet new friends all while being away from home. For me being so far from home was such a challenge being that Usually I with either my parents or brothers, so when I was away from my family I was home sick while I was there. I would call my family several times throughout the day while I was away from home. I was not able to enjoy myself while I was in Maryland because I could only reflect about being back with my family. I did not like my experience so much that would find simple issues to be upset about, such as the music played on the vans or how fast they would drive the vans going to field trips.…

In life, there are periods of transition in which individuals often face daunting challenges or obstacles. Overcoming these challenges at pivotal points of transition can impel the individual to develop essential character qualities and skills for surmounting adversity. My transition into high school was momentous. Here I knew that the decisions I made would likely have a strong impact on my future. Therefore, I had to be meticulous about the extracurricular activities I wanted to be involved in. This mindset allowed me to stay focused and determined because I wasn't focused on going to the next party or the new music that was out. I cared solely about the legacy I left behind. That is why I decided to run for student government at the end…

My junior year in high school I took two classes from teachers who gave immense amounts of work on difficult material. The classes were Honors Pre-Calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II. After a day at school and a demanding golf practice until dark, it was time to start my homework. By then I was already exhausted, but I still had hours of homework ahead of me. Most schools nights I would not be able to start my hefty pile of homework until 8 o'clock. Many nights the strenuous assignments given in Honors Pre-calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II kept me awake late into the night, even as late as 4 am. It was difficult struggling to stay awake and complete my strenuous workload after an entire day of activity. A full night of sleep…

The puzzle pieces were starting to scatter apart when I got notified by my second grade teacher that I had to take that recuperation exam for math class. It wasn't a surprise, back then I wasn’t that efficient at math. I needed support, so I took tutoring in math courses for about a month and studied the whole content that I took for my second grade year. If I didn’t pass that test I knew I would be unsatisfied. That way I feel it’s worse than summer school. That's how it is in my country, which takes place in Honduras. I would say it’s tougher, based on the fact that there is major pressure. Besides, who would desire to repeat a school year over again? Definitely not me , I speculated.…

During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…

High school is one of the biggest transitions in a person's early life. You go from being at the top in your school to the bottom. For me, it was very hard to adjust to this change. On my first day of high school, I walked into first period so nervous I thought I was going to get sick. This is much like what happened during my transition into middle school. On the first day at Mazzuchelli, right before the first class began, I threw up all over the floor of the classroom. I’m not a big fan of change. To make matters worse, the first week of high school was outrageously hot. The combination of the heat and my nerves made me sweat uncontrollably. At the time, I felt very self conscious of sweating during class. As bad as these first few days…

One weekend, seven of us decided to take a trip down from college to my parents' beach cottage in Panama City [Florida]. We were three guys and four girls celebrating our last weekend before beginning our sophomore year. We unloaded the cars and prepared for bed. I did not know then, but it was the last decent night's sleep I would have. We got up the next morning, loaded the cooler with beer and headed for the beach. We laughed, drank and exchanged stories from our freshman year. After finishing an enormous meal, we continued to drink and dance until 1:00 a.m. We had to get back to school early the next day, so we decided to fill the car with gas and get more cigarettes that night. My friend and I hopped in his truck, me in the driver's seat and he in the passenger seat, and headed to an all-night convenience store. We found one store open about two miles down the road. We pulled in, gassed up and headed back to the beach house. It was a straight shot, just a few minutes down a four-lane highway.…
