Personal Narrative: San Diego Zoo
My mother had found a zoo online that was located in our city and decided that it would be fun to check it out. I had my doubts since I had always trusted well-known zoos such as the San Diego Zoo, but in the end I too decided it would be worth looking into. It was Saturday noon, when my mom, dad, and I left for the zoo. When we were halfway there we came upon a bumpy road scattered with rocks. My father told us that it was used in winter to keep the cars from slipping on the icy road. But I could only think of one thing at that moment, the immense headache which the constant bumping on the road brought me. I complained that we should’ve gone to the Humane Society. It was right near the house and there wasn’t a bumpy road we had to cross when …show more content…
I sucked in my unhappiness and we went to the gift shop to buy tickets. After that, we went around the first half of the Zoo. Only the bear was awake while all the other animals slept. After looking around the first half a bit, I felt very dissatisfied until we saw the second half of the Zoo. My hopes went high again and as we passed the restrooms I saw those same bushes with purple flowers. The bees buzzed around them making an irritating drone as they hopped from flower to flower in a dreadful way. I quickly panicked and ran away from the bees to another exhibit. My parents followed me as I looked at a model of generators that powered the zoo. We continued down the path leading to turtles, which I ignored because of my boredom with the place. We saw some foxes which are my favorite animal and helped my mood a little bit. However, due to the lack of animals that were up and about (except for the vulture, hawk, bear, and fox) and the lack of variety in animals, I began to complain about how this trip was a waste of time. My father commented that the purple flowers attracted bees and would you know it, I was wearing purple pants and shirt with purple flowers. I began to have a whining fit on how I hated coming here, that the clothes I wore were an awful choice, and that my mother should have listened to me and we should’ve went to the humane

In Antonina’s List, an article published in 2007 for The New York Time’s Sunday book review, writer D. T. Max states, “For me, the more interesting story is Antonina’s. She was not, as her husband once called her, “a housewife,” but the alpha female in a unique menagerie. I would gladly read another book, perhaps a novel, based again on Antonina’s writings. She was special, and as the remaining members of her generation die off, a voice like hers should not be allowed to fade into the silence.”…

On Wednesday September 16th of 2015, I will be going to the Smithsonian National Zoo with a group of my friends. The Zoo was founded in 1889. It is one of the oldest zoos in the world. There are 1800 animals that live in the zoo. One of the most famous spots in the zoo for tourists to see is the Giant Panda exhibit. The giant pandas recently just gave birth to baby pandas. I have only been to the Smithsonian National Zoo once. I went in eighth grade for a school wide field trip. I love seeing animals and going to the zoo. Back where I am from (Delaware) there are not any zoos or big public attractions for young kids and teenagers.…

Visiting the zoo is a fun family activity that 175 million people do each year (“Zoo Statistics”). However, the animals in the zoo are treated horribly. As a kid, visiting the zoo was one of my favorite activities. I loved watching the animals and spending time with my family, but as I grew older, my joy of the zoo diminished when I realized what was happening to the animals. The mighty tiger that was once strutting across the grass is now a dreary, unhealthy animal that walks aimlessly just to pass the time. Many animals die an unnatural death because of the treatment they receive in zoos and the lack of space reserved for them. Zoos promise to bring in animals that are either endangered or unhealthy; however, a remarkable number of animals…

I volunteered at Texas Humane Heroes, a local animal welfare organization that gives a homeless dog or cat a chance of finding home. It is a nonprofit organization that benefits from the involvement of volunteers. This was a very unique experience because I got to work with a lot of different volunteers and staff members. There were different volunteering opportunities from foster volunteering to helping out around the place. I helped around the place with other volunteers. We cleaned the dog and cat cages and washed their bowls. It wasn’t fun to pick up their waste, but we got to play with the puppies and the kittens. We also had to greet customers and inform them about the cats and the dogs that they had up there. In the afternoon, we had to walk the dogs. So many volunteers and I, took the dogs out.…

My family and I arrived at the Death Valley National Park at the Mohave Desert in California, and saw the sign that said “Homeland of the Timbisha Shoshone”. We got out of the car to find it scorching hot. I hadn't realized that it would be this hot in the afternoon, even though it was July. We checked into one of the many hotels there, which was the Inn at Furnace Creek. It was one of the most charming hotels I've ever seen. My mom said to the friendly attendant, “Could we please have a glass of water, it's extremely hot out there”. The attendant replied, “ Of course; the weather does get very hot in the summer; springtime is the most popular time to visit because it’s not quite as hot, and lots…

For Centuries, the world’s populace have had an irresistible interest in animals and have flocked to zoos and other animal habitats such as Sea World or San Diego Zoo. Ever year, millions of families go on whale watching tours and aboard safaris or enjoy a Circus performance. However, the interest in animals is nothing new: Zoos have been around and brightening the smiles of many since the first collection of animals in our early periods of Chinese, Mesopotamian, and Egyptian civilizations (Rutledge). The term zoo is an abbreviated form of “zoological garden” and it was created in the nineteenth century (Rutledge). The reasons behind captivating wild animals are associated with the deep core study of animals, restoration, preservation and educational needs. For an extensive period, zoo authorities claimed to have contributed to the restoration of endangered animal species; due to the up rise of vocals in organizations dealing with animal rights, a matter of abuse on zoo animals has become apparent. The issue of keeping animals in captivity or not is argued on several websites and blogs. This matter has become the source of passionate disputes taking place throughout the world.…

Everyone has that one dream, that one dream that no matter what they always hope comes true. Well for me it all started when I was about three. Attention Material: Ever since I was a little girl, I have gone to the buffalo zoo every summer. I have always been completely and utterly mesmerized by the huge animals to the right of the zoo entrance. Every time I go, still to this day, it takes a lot to persuade me to leave that exhibit. There is something so magical about these giant creatures. Something extremely intriguing. The way that they stand so tall, and present themselves so calmly. It’s almost calming just to be around this animal.…

The sound of the ocean is a form of relaxation but for me, I like to call it home. Ventura is a small county located in the southern part of the California and for the past twenty-two years it has been my sanctuary. The other two years of my life I spent in a smaller town called Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. This was my birthplace and home to my parents until they made the decision of migrating directly to Ventura County. Within Irapuato City, there are small ranchos or ranches, located on the outskirts of town and at our rancho, we would raise pigs, goats, cows and, sheep. Surrounding our rancho there are acres of land, where we plant fruits and vegetables to consume and sell to our little community. Life in Mexico is much more rural than…

With no doubt, time goes by faster than realized. Throughout a lifetime several things may happen to make us want to make time stand still. In today's time majority of people take their life and time on Earth for granted. Although it is not possible to make an event last forever, if I had the choice to go back to a certain time/event I would go back to the summer of 2012. In June of 2012 I started my summer off in Philadelphia. From Philadelphia I then traveled to Disney World in Florida. But why was this time so important to me? Firstly, this summer was not all about fun. Of course, I had a great time, but it was about the family I spent it with. Secondly, Disney World is such a happy place to be. Above all, this was time I knew I would never get back: although, with the choice to go back I would.…
