Personal Narrative: Rafting Down The Truckee River
Every year, my family on my dad’s side goes rafting down the Truckee river. It has always been a tradition to go to tahoe over the summer, and go rafting one of those days. Over the years, we have had many fond memories, like water fights with water guns, and pushing people into the water. First, we go down to the place to rent the raft, they set up our family with two, and then we go down the river until there is a bend where they take you and your raft out. At the end of the place where you can raft, there is a little grill that we would go to for lunch. One time, when we were rafting, and I think I was about seven or eight year old, we came across a group of people, floating down the river with a keg of beer. Beer is illegal to have on …show more content…
Back at the house that we were staying at, my grandpa and my cousin, who was mentioned earlier, Joey, were fooling around and somehow is devolved into my grandpa pantsing my cousin. While everyone was laughing and teasing Joey, his mom, my aunt Jill, was plotting her revenge. The next day, as we were going down the river, my aunt was relentlessly shooting my grandpa, but that was only the beginning of her revenge. Once we got to the end of the part where you can raft, we got out and went to the grill for lunch. This was where the revenge really happened. After we had all finished our lunch, my grandpa stood up and was looking at the river, over a table where a family was eating. My aunt snuck up behind him, and forgetting he was only wearing swimming trunks, pantsed him! The rest of the family was standing behind my aunt, so we were able to see the looks of disgust on the family my grandpa was facing’s faces. My grandpa immediately pulled up his trunks, and my aunt, realizing what had happened, immediately began apologizing to the family. Thankfully, the family had a sense of humor and was able to laugh it off (and thankfully didn’t press

The trail continued around the east side of the lake entering a gathering of trees forming an insignificant forest along the lake’s shoreline. From our viewpoint, the trees concealing the trail eventually dispersed on the southeast side of the lake, and the trail blended into the landscape. Using our imagination, we envisioned the route against the rugged terrain sloping into the lake. No point in taking a vote now, we had trekked to the lake and the consensus was to proceed with a lap around the lake.…

From the article, we learn that Elisabeth Hyde went rafting on a ’13 day, 225-mile trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.’ She describes the trip as a ‘Disneyland’ like experience with ’a white-knuckle, roller-coaster ride’. Hyde also comments on how she found it quite scary but ‘exhilarating’. While Hyde was on the trip, we learn that she was joined by her husband, her three children and 17 other strangers. They are all placed onto ‘6m rafts’ with ‘masses of gear’ which is also packed onto the rafts. She also describes how the group of people alternates, ranging from her ‘13-year-old twin daughters’ to ‘a couple in their mid-70s’. From this information, we can assume that the trip would be appealing to all ages due to the variety of age range between the people on the trip.…

Our whole wagon train met at the front entrance and we left Fort Kearney together. It was a nice stay, but we had to keep moving. As we were traveling on the trail, we were stopped by the South Platte River. We need to cross the river in order to follow a stream that heads to the North. We check if there were bridges around the place since the water was shallow, but we saw no bridge. We decided to use the sand bar we saw so we can get across the river. As we crossed the river, Michael almost fell off the sand bar with his 13 year old son. Luckily Curtis pulled him up and we were successfully able to cross the river.…

July 8, 1982, I murdered my first victim. Her name was Wendy Lee Coffield. She was only 16, just a runaway, probably dropped out of school. I strangled it with it’s own clothes. I dumped the body in the Green River. Like my favored outdoor sexual spots, these were some of the locations I also dumped these objects, what I like to refer to these outcast women as. Also in the Green River was the body of Debra Lynn Bonner, 23, Marcia Faye Chapman, 31, Cynthia Jean Hinds, 17, Opal Charmaine Mills, 16, Tracy Winston, 19.…

For a few summers after my daddy went to heaven, I found myself taking long walks into the woods, a far piece behind the back of my house. When I was young I’d play there every day and over time the trails grew wide. I knew those chaotic mazes as well as my own reflection in the Miner’s River. Sometimes I’d count the steps it took to reach a fork on a specific trail, having already decided which trail to take till I arrived.…

If I don’t have homework for 4-5 days. I think I will go Lake Tahoe and rent a cabin for these nights. I will bring my camera and go there to take some photos. At night, I will stay in the cabin and look through the photos I take to find some good or bad aspect for each photo to improve my photography skill. And I will bring some tea with me, so I can truly relax from the academic stress.…

We were ready. Paddles in hand, canoe by our side, personal floatation devices, knee pads, and cameras. The afternoon sun shined on the lake, reflecting it across the calm waters. Crowds of people were enjoying their Sunday afternoon on North Beach at Devil’s Lake State Park. Young children stumbled on the moist sand and shallow waters as they tried to catch tadpoles with their small buckets. Soothing, a gentle breeze passed by as we walked towards the edge of Devil’s Lake. Marveling at the majestic mountain of cedars around the lake and smelling the damp sand, my dad, little sister, and I were all set to take on our first wilderness inquiry; canoeing across a lake. It was safe to say that we were in for an exciting adventure…

Lake Tahoe is a special place that has been a part of my life ever since I was born. This magical wonderland is unique and always has its moments no matter what time of year it is. From winter, when the snow glazed mountains offer great views and terrific skiing to the summer when the weather is warm and the activities are endless, there is always something for everyone. All of the memories that have stuck with me over the years make me appreciate this place more and more every time I visit. I have been fortunate enough to own a beautiful cabin on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and get to visit numerous times a year. While many people would probably choose to travel to another country, a foreign universe, or something even more extraordinary, there is no place I would rather go than Pawnee, Indiana, despite the fact that it doesn’t really exist. Having been a fan of the television show Parks and Recreation for quite some time now, I can confidently say that Pawnee would be the most exciting place one could go.…

In the wee hours of the morning my life is the embodiment of a living, breathing dichotomy. Awakening with a wry little smile on my face, I knew I had dreamed of the river, big brown trout, and sweet 3wt bamboo rods. My body screams – “Where’s the coffee”, while my brain questions the sanity of getting up this early on a Saturday. Oblivious to the cacophony, the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. Betraying logic, they forewarn that this pre-dawn moment was the premonition of a great day ahead.…

A day in Memphis is not complete without the diversity in our community. As a second generation Memphian who has primarily lived in Midtown, I had the privilege of watching several different cultures in one place and especially now that I attended one of the largest public schools. Daily, I experience someone else’s world. The people I get to meet and see are from various backgrounds: race, religion, ethnicity, etc. that I may never comprehend, which is wonderful. In Memphis, it is normal to be an enigma, to have idiosyncrasies. I believe that is the heart of Memphis. What makes this heart surpass discrimination is the acceptance that follows years of diversity. My neighborhood has single mothers whose children play with the neighborhood adolescents.…

As a student I find myself seated in front of a computer screen for long hours at a time; likewise, it is my obligation as a student to use technology as a resource to further my comprehension in my degree. In my opinion a good excuse to be seated in front of a computer for long hours. It is easy to say that I find a lot of inspiration form online sources, blogs, and social media – which I do – however, I feel most inspired when I step away from the computer screen. I find inspiration in the ordinary; I love to travel and see new things, in this case this is where I found my inspiration. Along my travels to Whistler Mountain in previous winters I saw a portion of land that was clear-cut, but one tree stood alone covered in snow. This piece…
