Personal Narrative: NYU
I will never forget the first time I saw NYU. I was seven years old standing in Washington Square Park looking at this magnificent building, unable to look away. I had no idea what this place was, but I was amazed none the less. At that moment my mother, an immigrant from the former Soviet Union, told me something I will never forget. She said, “I came here so that you would have the opportunities that I never dreamed of, this is one of the best schools in the world and one day I hope you get the type of education this place offers.”
For many years I viewed NYU through the eyes of a naïve child. To me, going there was a dream, like becoming an astronaut or a cowboy. However, as a soon to be high school graduate I am able to see NYU, not as

Sometimes a stern warning is just what you need in order to push you to take a step back and evaluate your next move, especially when it could be a life changing one. In “Alumnus Welcomes New UC Berkeley Students with Stern Warning,” Shouak Bagchi, an alumnus of UC Berkeley, addresses the Berkeley freshmen class of 2017 with appraisal and advice for the future. Bagchi writes to the new students about what attending one of the most prestigious public universities entails. This article is rhetorically persuasive due to the fact that Bagchi is an alumnus of UC Berkeley. He references topics that the students can relate to and he mentions many of the successful alumni of the university.…

I would like to begin by saying that I am honored to be a nominee for membership into the 2013 Senior Honor Society of York College of Pennsylvania. I take passion in my academic studies and my community involvement. The opportunity to be recognized for the impact I have made on my college and local community is truly flattering. After spending my first two years at Millersville University, I began my studies at York College in my third year of college as a junior. Living in Spring Grove, I made the decision to live at home, work a part-time job, and commute to York College. These factors are all things that could have impacted my campus-life involvement, but I was determined to not let these factors impact my college experience. I jumped head first into the York College Community and was accepted with open arms into whatever groups I wanted to become affiliated with on campus.…

To begin with, I was over my grandma's house on a warm and cozy summer night. When out of the blue my mom asks Me if I would rather go to school online or regular high school she stated that if I chose to go to school online I'll be going to a school named Penn foster. Because it would let me work at my own pace, it didn't cost too much, plus they would help me if I didn't quite understand one of my courses. My first thought was wow why the heck not! and blurted out yep I wanna go to school…

Even though this my be the college of my dreams, this means leaving my family. Washington D.C is not that far from here, but for me it is hours and days away. On the bright side news reporters have said that Howard has an exceptional film program. The truth is I’m really not sure what I want to do, being a film director, an actor, or maybe even lawyer it all seems like a lot. Especially for a person of color, the world is set up so that a person like me won’t succeed. Of course I want to go to college, but am I ready for it? Why should I have to write a paper on the college I want to go to. I know this is assignment is given to everybody, but I feel like there is more than what they say. Would you ask me to write a paper if I was different. This is my paper, this is why I want to go to Howard University. “There's always something to suggest that you'll never be who you wanted to be. Your choice is to take it or keep on moving.” -…

University of Chicago’s prestige is extraordinary, and its renown expands throughout our entire world. Yet this is not what makes this place so intriguing. From being immersed in one of Earth’s most dynamic cities to its philosophy of intellectual growth and global exploration, UChicago’s value goes far beyond the label as a top tier school. As I attended a UChicago visit to Bishop Watterson, I remember specifically when Mr. Kurfirst, an officer of the admissions department, said “Yes, University of Chicago is very competitive, but not in the way most people think. The students here compete in order to push each other to higher boundaries. We compete, but everyone here is in this together and our students can turn to anyone in our community”. If I want to make a positive difference in this world, no university would be more reliable in encouraging and assisting my endeavors than this institution. With the University of Chicago, political aspirations people called impossible and idealistic suddenly seem…

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

If you ever ask me what was the biggest regret of my life? I would say that my regrets are those opportunities I had missed without even trying to reach. The great Michael Jordan once said “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying”. Moving to New York City to attend Pace University has been a transformative experience and a huge transition from life in my small hometown in Southern California. The city’s allowed me to immerse myself in a diverse environment of cultures and lifestyles. The campus location in downtown Manhattan has exposed me to a variety of people and unique opportunities. While these have been wonderful aspects, the university’s non-traditional structure and large percentage of commuting students have made it difficult to become involved with student activities. The school’s format have made it challenging to become all-consumed in academic pursuits. while I have benefitted from Pace’s small class sizes which have allowed me to get to know my professors, I have made all too frequent visits to my advisor who has given me leverage with course selections and been a source of all-around support, but can’t replace the close-knit campus culture I desire. My motivation to transfer stems from a desire to obtain the best educational experience possible.…
