Personal Narrative: My Journey To Become A SLP
As I previously stated, my journey towards becoming an SLP has not always been easy, but I believe each obstacle has better equipped me for a career in this profession. My challenges has made me appreciate life and the value of education. Prior to being assigned an SLP, in elementary school one of my teachers felt that I had a learning disability and needed to be retained or put back into the second grade. Thanks to my mom and the willingness of my teachers this did not have to happen. It was found that my academic difficulties was not due to a “lack” of intelligence but because of a slower rate of cognition and test anxiety. Shyness also played a huge role in my academic performance; it prevented me from asking and answering questions. My
