Personal Narrative: My First Year At Southeastern
During my first year at Southeastern, I was not sure that this was a real college experience. A little about my background; I came from a high school not much smaller than Southeastern. It was a popular public high school, where parties were wild and drugs and alcohol were present in many of the students lives. Anyways, media portrays college as a big party, “the best years of your life.” Therefore, coming to Southeastern was a little bit of a culture shock, there are not wild parties, and no drugs or alcohol present. Nevertheless, I was not looking to go to a big party school, but I was not expecting college to feel like I was somewhat separated from reality. It took a fair amount of time for me to be completely adjusted to the culture of …show more content…
It was a very intense surgery, and I was unable to play after it. This was another culture shock. My life felt like it had stopped because I was no longer able to say I am a high performance athlete. At that time I was unsure if I could even call myself an athlete. I never acknowledged pain until that point, so immediately I questioned both my physical and mental strength. I had to restart my life, I had to decide who I really wanted to be. But, I was not ready to give up. I tried with great effort to play again, going to every practice, going to physical therapy two, sometimes three times a day. I ended up hurting my elbow and having to go through more physical therapy and had the possibility of another surgery if I kept trying to play. Finally, I accepted that my playing career was over. I was able to remain apart of my high school team as a student coach. I never knew how selfish I was when I was playing. I felt like I was on a new team, meeting these girls for the first time. God works in amazing ways, even though it took physical pain for me to stop and realize what I was doing. I am so blessed that he gave me the opportunity to influence, and mentor these

Throughout my academia, I have been a member of several clubs and organizations, but have yet to attend a free leadership and service conference. The National Society of Collegiate Scholars needs a free in-person event that hosts a multitude of workshops from becoming a better member, to becoming a better leader and more. This event should be a two-day weekend long including update meetings on how the organization is accomplishing its endeavors and goals in terms of membership count, influence in the community, and upcoming events. During a workshop, we could bring in experts to discuss how to become a better writer to increase our chances of earning NSCS scholarships and other scholarships. In another workshop, our members and club leaders…

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

I came to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall. I suffered from depression my junior and senior year of high school. I was never officially diagnosed, because I lied to every therapist my mother sent me to. I could not be honest with anyone but myself at the time. However, I thought things would be different when I came to college. I thought I would be able to open up to people again, but I never anticipated that I would get worse. I thought college would cure me, for some reason. Ironically, I got even worse my first semester in college. My previous burdens added on to the pressure of getting good grades, being involved on campus, and trying to make friends. It was all too much for me. It also didn't help…

College is unfamiliar territory to individuals of my age. I have friends and family members who have been through it, yet everyone’s experience is completely diverse. Nevertheless, there is one statement that is habitually received amongst many when they talk about their college experience: “College is the best four years of your life, so be sure to make the most of it.” That is unerringly what I plan to accomplish with my four years at the University of Louisville. I want it to be memorable.…

The event that I choose to follow summer fest was a simple and casual visit to the wellness and recreational center, fancy way of saying the gym. Upon my first ever visit to Florida International University I still remember at our freshmen orientation entering the gym and thinking to myself this seems like a place that I will be visiting often during my four year tenure at school. And boy was I right, the facility was clean and professional looking very much like a professional gym would appear, the staff where all kind and ready to assist you if help was ever necessary, something that I truly valued. I was extremely exited to take a spinning class at the FIU gym, I had only ever heard positive reviews and I was looking forward to the experience as well. Personally I am obsessed with fitness so any class, or activity is something that I love to experience which is what drove me to experience the class myself, and did, I love it. When I got out of that class I was sweating so much, I felt like I had gone on a run around the world and it so amazing, the instructor knew exactly what she was doing and had no problem helping you out if you needed it, the music was fun and exiting extremely up tempo. Overall I can only rave about the experience, it was positive and motivational. It has truly inspired me to no matter how stressed I may be I can always go down to the gym and relieve my stress while gaining a benefit as well.…

Hi Mom and Dad! How have you been doing? Sorry i haven't been able to write to you in a while, I've been so busy with school. I was really nervous about going to college so far away from here I love Aurora College. I was really surprised with how cold it is in Inuvik, NT but I guess it makes sense considering i’m in the Southern Arctic ecozone. Around here the average temperature is -28°C in the winter and 10℃ in the summer which really sucks since the winters are really long and summers are short. There is a lot of things to do here like skiing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. I learned that the southern arctic was once covered with glacier, but when they moved south, they carried rocks and earth with them and scraped the land and that's why…

Junior year was here and I hadn’t played in a single game. While at soccer practice, yes I still attended even though I was on crutches and couldn’t play, my mom called me to tell me the results of it my injury. No one had thought it was my Anterior Cruciate Ligament, but it was. It had been completely torn in half and I needed surgery for it to be repaired. He had already put in my name and date for the surgery and everything. I felt like I was paralyzed from the head down. I couldn’t help but feel so torn up about not being able to play the whole season. I decided after the surgery I would try my hardest to recover and build my self better than what I was. I went to physical therapy every day I needed to and finished…
